Ahh the terror that those two words brings to mind. It's been at least three years since I'd been to a dentist (due in large part to my not having insurance). I figured that now that I have insurance and my gums seem to be stronger it's a good time to pay a visit. I knew that I would be needing at least a deep cleaning. At worst... well on my last visit the dentist told me that I needed a crown (to cover one of my larger silver fillings).
I've never been OK at the dentist. I know it's pathetic but I can't stand needles in my mouth or the painful scratching of my teeth. I'd had a really bad experience as a youth where the dentist didn't give me enough Novocaine and when he drilled into my tooth he opened and air-hole to my nerve. There really is no way to describe the pain that I felt. Ever see Marathon Man??? Kind of like that.
Needless to say ever since I've decided to pre-medicate myself before going to the dentist. I've used various cocktails before and they mostly worked to calm me down so I didn't get so paranoid and ease the pain of the shot. On day 11 of my juice fast I tried (for the first time) Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Liqui-gels. When your body is on the juice fast and you take a liqui-gel the medicine works quick and lasts long!!! Unfortunately, the dentist didn't clean my teeth (as the scheduler promised he would do). Instead, he just did the x-rays and explained that I would have to come back for the "deep" cleanings, twice. Damn!! Had I known that I wouldn't have taken the drugs!!! (At least I only have one cavity--and DONT need the crown)
I had the appointment at 11am and for the rest of the day I was doped out. Normally this would be fine if I was dealing with recovering from an assault on my mouth. However, since that didn't happen I had to deal with feeling "dopey" all day. Bummer :( I didn't even have the strength when I went home to workout. I just laid on the couch till it was time to go to bed.
The one thing I did notice was that the drugs made me incredibly thirsty (there is a anti-histamine in the stuff so that makes sense). So I went out and got a papaya and an orange to try juicing. It was really good but the juice was a little thick (I couldn't get it through the strainer very well).
Well, that was Day 11. I also lost another pound. I'm down to 217.
PS Gonna try Oxypowder as was recommended by meire for the regularity. Will let you know how that goes (I still havn't tried the senna tea--but I think I'll brew a cup tonight)
