Re: Soy dangers: decreased iodine, goiter, thyroid cancer, pancreatic cancer
Warburg also pointed out that, regardless of what happens once cancer does develope, it first develops in the presence of low cellular oxygen and so I consider proper oxygenation at the cellular level as an important cancer preventive to keep from developing cancer as well as keep existing cancer from multiplying in most instances. I do not regard low cellular oxygen as the cause of cancer, but rather an enabling co-factor.
You are right, most of what is found on our grocers produce shelves are GMO. In general, most of what is found on our grocers shelves is crap too. Now, when it comes to plants, natural cross breeding via cross pollination occurs in nature all the time and does not particularly bother me in general. Laboratory engineered cross breeding to withstand herbicides and pesticides and such is an entirely different issue.
While there are a lot of myths out there concerning soy and canola, here is something that is not a myth: Monsanto's ``Roundup Ready'' series of soybean and canola seeds, engineered to withstand the company's popular Roundup herbicide, are the most widespread GMO oilseeds planted in North America.
That is enough for me.
Also, canola oil itself may be low in trans-fats, but such is not always the case with processed canola in many food items, particularly items such as margarine substitutes which are highly hydrogenated. The person who made the statement I quoted, Dr. Mary Enig, is one of the most highly regarded nutritionists in the world.
