"My" GOP

The two-party system in the US isn't working very well, is it?

I am hearing from several conservative Democrat friends of mine who are unhappy with their party and are crossing the aisle to our side. They don't know what happened to their party, but they can no longer support the Dem agenda.

Strangely enough, I'm hearing the same sentiments from many of my conservative GOP friends. We hated the Clintons with a passion because of Waco, drug running, the Asia connection, Monica, the Travel Office, etc. and put in a true conservative Christian. I think this might be similar to when Carter replaced Nixon. Nixon lied to the American people about Watergate and the people wanted a big- grinnin' good ol' Baptist boy from Georgia as their president.

I see the GOP divided into two camps. The first camp is composed of the economic conservatives. These are the Goldwater Republicans, the moneyed seniors who drive the party leadership with their large campaign contributions. They are often moderate in their social views. This is a sweeping generalization, but it seems they are primarily concerned with making more money for themselves and their friends.

"My" GOP is not the same. Many of us became members of the GOP during the Reagan years. Our goal is to put men and women in office who will make policy decisions based on Biblical principles and will uphold the original intent of the US Constitution. We are the grass roots of the GOP. We aren't rich. We're really feeling the pinch of high taxes and gas prices, and we don't want our jobs shipped overseas either. We do support DOMA and seek to repeal Roe. We will always support Israel because Jesus Christ was a Jew, and we believe with all our hearts that Israel is God's favored nation (Some of you will barf on that, but I am telling you what we sincerely believe). I don't know anybody who likes the Patriot Act, with the exception of a few police officer friends of ours. We can't stand the welfare system as it is, but we really don't have much to offer the poor in the way of alternatives. We certainly don't want government-sponsored health care, but we know the current cost of health care is beyond outrageous, and more and more people are uninsured. I can't stand the price gouging that Big Pharma gets away with, but Wall Street looks the other way because BPh profits line investors' wallets. The economic GOP supports this, but I'm afraid the wealthy Dems do, too. We don't like war, either, but we do support our troops, wherever they are sent. Most of the Goldwater GOP could care less about the environment, but the grassroots Christians in the GOP believe that we have a responsibility as humans to protect and conserve the Earth.

I hope this gives you a better picture of who we are.

To this I add that I can believe the idea of government-sponsored Terrorism because of Waco. Goodness- I live here and it happened 30 minutes east of my house. I have to say that the Clintons were in the White House at the time and it scares me to think they might be back. Could it be that there really is a NWO in control of world leaders and it doesn't matter who gets to decorate the White House?

If this is true, then am I right in saying that it is really up to us, the voters? That we must choose our Congressmen wisely, because they will be the force which keeps the Executive Office in line? Could the same be said for our international friends with their governments?

Blessings,
-Donna
