Re: Probiotics May Make SIBO Worse

This post is VERY interesting to me as I'm having some issues and can't help but think it was caused by some high dose probiotics!

I started with some IBS-like symptoms and and some new drug intolerances last fall, gradually got worse and I actually suspected Candida at first. I started taking a probiotic and after only 3 days, I was able to take Ibuprofen in small quantities (something I had become intolerant of). Since it seemed to work, I kept taking my probiotic, took a scriipt of Diflucan and added in an 85 live culture, 32 strain probiotic 3x a day.

Long story short, I increased my probiotic dosage to 5x day for 1 day only (started increasing my symptoms when I increased my probiotic dose) but went back to my 3x day dose immediately afterward because of the increased symptoms and ever since then, I have been sensitive to EVERYTHING I EAT, not just a drug intolerance. When I say everything, that is no exaggeration...I can only eat meat that I prepare and a few select vegetables without experiencing symptoms!

Been working with my Dr. for 2 months now and we've found nothing wrong with me other than some things that would be a result of malabsorption. She's starting me on an Antibiotic for SIBO this week so I'll come back and update on whether or not it works and whether or not my issue is a result of the probiotics.

This whole thing freaks me out because you never hear anything "BAD" about probiotics...they're supposed to be safe and have no ill effects to a person. Because of this, are we just making ourselves sicker?!
