Re: Adamson77 WENDY
I went to my doctor and asked for an IUD. I was expecting to get the copper IUD. When I went in I was told Mirena would be better and that the hormones would stay in my uterus and my periods would be lighter than with the copper IUD and I could change it out after 5 years instead of 10. I had really heavy periods to begin with so that was a bonus. Not having to worry about bleeding 5 to 7 days out of the month, when I only got to see my fiance' about once a month was a good thing to me. I didn't want another child right then. We had only been dating a year and weren't living together yet. I learned my lesson the 1st time I was married. We both wanted a child then when the child was six months old walked out after being in a relationship for 5 years. I have to think back now and wonder how much of that was affected by the Depo shot I was taking because it changed me too.
So yes I chose this method of birth control because I hate condoms. Prior to Mirena I had an extreme sex drive so the idea of having sex with my fiance' without having to use any other protection for 5 years was very appealing to me. I can't take the pill because it affects my blood pressure & my weight badly. The shot made me so depressed I wanted to kill myself and I didn't want to be touched so I didn't have to worry about getting pregnant because I didn't want sex. I tried a diaphram, which was ok, but kinda messy and sometimes hard to put in and take out especially when your in the heat of things. I tried so many different things before I chose Mirena as a birth control. It wasn't something forced on me by my fiance' (now husband) or my doctor. Yes I walked in there and said I want that inside me. My aunt used the copper one for years so I thought it would be a good choice.
I really find it hard to believe that your doctor did that at a regular check up visit and just layed you on the table and stuck that in there and u felt no pain whatsoever when they stuck the tube inside your cervix because it has to dialate to be inserted into the uterus. I had to have several visits/exams before they would even put it in. Also had several visits after it was inserted to be sure it was in the right place and the strings were right. I think I even had to watch a video on this to be sure that this was what I wanted. It was done threw the health department because at the time I didn't have health insurance.
I'm having a hard time believing they just stuck this in you and you had no idea what they were doing to you. Maybe before you accept something from your doctor you need to research what you are doing, back to what I said about being uninformed and immature. You said something in another post about a Nuva Ring. The doctor doesn't insert those, you insert it into your vagina yourself every month.
I'm sorry this happened to you, but maybe you need to take more time to research this stuff before you let someone put things inside you.
Unfortunately I think you are totally missing the point of what Danielle and I are trying to tell you. Take time to think out what you are posting and don't just hit post. Consider other's feelings. Would you want to be told that if you were in her situation? This is a place to help people not attack each other. We are here to share our experiences and hoepfully someone researching Mirena will find these pots we have made and make an informed decision. Mirena, or however they want to spell it, had only been out a few years when I had it placed. There was no information like this out there that I found. I wish I would have known this before because I probably wouldn't have gotten it if I would have known it was going to effect my body the way it did. Because it's fairly new I don't think the doctors know what to expect.
My GP is wonderful. He never blamed any of the problems I was having on my weight. He took them all seriously and tired really hard to get answers for me. He was just as confused as I was. He always asked me about my periods. I would tell him each time I have an IUD the Mirena. He would say ok. I guess he never associated the problems I was having with the IUD. Why would he it was there for almost 5 years and it was due to come out soon.
