I'll try to make this as concise as possible. I'll start with teasing out the details of the symptoms of my exfoliative cheilitis (chronic peeling lips), then explain what has cured me.

Symptoms:
-chronic peeling (4-5 day cycle)
-build-up of skin (looked like yellow cornflakes)
-inflamed raw-looking skin underneath dead skin
-turned white when in contact with water
-taut feeling skin, little elasticity

My cure:
I've been battling this for about 4 years. After trying every possible treatment under the sun and going to several doctors to no avail, one day, I decided to restrict all grain (gluten, rice, corn) from my diet. After 1 week, i noticed significant improvement. The build-up ceased, and other health issues seemed to resolve as well. I've always had purple, swollen toes which i've gone to doctors about.They said it was nothing to worry about, and nothing i could change. But after a week of a strict no-grain diet, my toes have miraculously assumed a normal color and size. My Acne also cleared up. After 2 weeks, my lips have generally normal elasticity, does not turn white when in contact with water, and only requires 2 applications of lip balm (i use vaniply lip ointment) a day. The skin that becomes dry is significantly thinner than what used to peel off. And it easily comes off.

I'd love to help:
After 4 years of dealing with this, and finally finding resolution to this nightmare, I feel a strong obligation to help anyone else who is plagued by this awful affliction. I understand the frustration of not knowing what direction to go in, not knowing whether or not a treatment is working, not knowing when you will be cured. I understand the frustration and anger towards doctors that do not take this condition seriously. I understand the self-consciousness, low self esteem, and Depression that this condition causes. I understand the weight this condition puts on your shoulders whenever you're in public... avoiding certain people, feeling the urge to check yourself in a mirror every 10 minutes... I understand it ALL. The thought of never seeing the day that my lips be normal has crossed my mind countless times, so I want to make sure that anyone else who is going through this has a shot at beating it. This may not be the cure for everyone, but the correlation in my case has been so unbelievably evident, that i feel like it may be the cure for many.
