Here's an "encyclopedia's worth" of Cayenne Info for ya! Re: taking cayenne

Here's a BUNCH of good reading (links/blurbs below) Typcially the "cayenne" you find in the grocery store (or on health food store shelves) has a VERY low HU rating (heat units)...around 40,000 HU. The kind of cayenne/blend that is most effective for therapeautic reasons (not culinary) is rated at 150,000 HU or higher. Most experienced herbalists suggest it's a waste of money to utilize anything less than 100,000 HU. ('most folks I know that use it health, stick to 150,000 HU or higher...I tincture my own -from a blend of peppers and organic powdered pepper - and mine is around 225,000 HU.

NEVER take cayenne/blends over 40,000-80,000 HU in capsule form...your stomach WILL let you know never to do it again, if you ever do it once. It's just too much "heat" all in one place as the capsule dissolves.

You can get the good stuff from Dr. Schulze or Southern Botanicals (in smaller quantities) or you can order the bulk powder from various sources (Mountain Rose Herbs or Pacific Botanicals is best).

This Cayenne / Capsicum concentrated extract and powder is by far the strongest available anywhere. I label them 250,000 and 275,000 heat units respectively, but that is a MINIMUM.
