Jesus was speaking in general yet it specifically finds application to every individual reading the words. : ) He was repeating from the Old Testament in which he was directly speaking to Israel...here is the chapter.


Deu 6:1 Now these [are] the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do [them] in the land whither ye go to possess it:

Deu 6:2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

Deu 6:3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do [it]; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.

Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Deu 6:6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

Deu 6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Deu 6:9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

Deu 6:13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

Deu 6:14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which [are] round about you;

Deu 6:15 (For the LORD thy God [is] a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

Deu 6:16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted [him] in Massah.

Deu 6:17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

Deu 6:18 And thou shalt do [that which is] right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,

Deu 6:19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.

Deu 6:20 [And] when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What [mean] the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?

Deu 6:21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:

Deu 6:22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

Deu 6:23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

Deu 6:24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as [it is] at this day.

Deu 6:25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

When Jesus was speaking in the verses I shared in the last post, it was in response to the question concerning the greatest commandment.

Mat 22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

Mat 22:35 Then one of them, [which was] a lawyer, asked [him a question], tempting him, and saying,

Mat 22:36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

Again, the 10 commandments were given to a specific people yet have application to all as salvation was first to the Jew then to the Gentile. And yes, there were other gods as the Law speaks of having no other gods before God(these other gods were the non-existant pagan gods that the people formed into objects to worship).

Fear concerning God doesn't mean "afraid" to me...it means to consider and hold Him in awe above all that is. In this sense, fear and love can be at the same time. Jealous is a human chacteristic and word where the meaning would be that God isn't sharing a place only He holds with lesser gods. In the original account of the giving of the Law, immediately after the wording concerning God being a jealous God, it is spoken that the iniquity of the fathers spills to the 3rd and 4th generations of children that follow the ones that hate Him. Not that the following generations are responsible for the original actions, but that the consequences of sin are like ripples on a pond(spreading outward).

Loving one's brother's is as loving God? Yes...it is a early example of the heavenly relationship between the person and God. However, again, loving one's brother is referring to loving others within the family of God(if you are referring to the last verse here in Romans).


Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Rom 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

Rom 12:5 So we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of faith;

Rom 12:7 Or ministry, [let us wait] on [our] ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, [let him do it] with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Rom 12:9 [Let] love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Rom 12:10 [Be] kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;


Yes, Jesus is God the Son...incarnate...God(spirit) with us...Spirit revealed in the form of flesh. Not sure what you meant by the question, though.

As God is love, those that love with that pureness would be doing so because they love God first. If everyone was loving this way, yes, it would be the utopia that the Bible does promise for the future...no war, no evil, no hatred, no mistrust, etc. And only for those that are in communion with the One Who IS peace, holy, love, trust, etc. Don't emotions come as a result of what the mind is set on thinking...whether proper(peace) or improper(anxiety)?
