Re: Intense Sugar Cravings
Hi there--
Yes
Sugar is quite addictive.
It seems like you might not be ready to kick
Sugar cold turkey.
I have a few suggestions that may help of things I've done that have really helped me.
I agree with a previous poster about the book
Sugar blues--it is a good motivator.
If you haven't read it also you should check out Gabriel Cousens book on depression.
Try to incorporate fresh veggie juices and a green supplement such as green superfood or chloryphll in your diet.
Try to quit smoking. If you can't quit cut down. I smoked years ago and aside form all the terrible things it does to your lungs and body I found smoking made me tired, irritable and crave junk foods and alcohol/unhealthy habits.
Pay attention to when you smoke and why--is it emotional? Try to cut down to times when you most crave them such as after meals etc...
Cardio excercise helps immensly with cravings.
Cardio and yoga helped immensly with depression. Also SAMe.
Now as far as sugar goes. It sounds like it might not just be sugar but chocolate which can be very addictive.
So to work on your sugar addiction try to initially transorm your addiction. Set up rules for yourself. Like only allowing yourself unrefined sweetners and sweets made with unrefined products, stay away from high fructose corn syrup! Go to the health food store and when you have a sweet craving don't eat chocolate but eat sweets made with natural sweetners (honey maple syrup, brown rice syrup, etc)and try also without wheat (which also can be very addictive). You may find your blood sugar rises a little less rapidly. Then once you can manage only eating healthier sweets try to transition to only unsweetened dried fruits when you are craving sweets etc, then slowly try to transition to only eating fruit when you have cravings etc.
Also try to transition your diet to eating more fruits vegetables etc.
Just take things one step at a time. Things shift gradually and don't happen overnight.
Hope this helps!
