honey for dry eyes?

An acunpuncturist said to put 100% pure honey directly in the eye, then to wash out with cold (boiled) water. I called the eye doctor and he said he had never heard of that, and that it could be very abrasive to the cornea, etcetc. Has anyone heard of this treatment for dry tired eyes? I reminded the doctor that all the regular prescriptions of steroids etc that he has given have not worked as well, and his response was that there is very little remedy for dry tired eyes. S.
