Re: Nut / Seed butter

Hi MH

I have a very strong craving for cashew butter and to some extent, peanut butter. I wonder what this could mean. Am I deficient in protein, or copper, or something else? I eat cooked vegetarian food, leaning towards vegan.

Also, the nourishing traditions books recommend soaking nuts in salt before eating them. If I soak cashews and peanuts and make butter from them the butter tastes quite bad, and I don't have a craving for that taste anymore. Do you think it is unhealthy to make nut butters without soaking the nuts beforehand?

Could you explain what is so good nutritionally about nut butters? I eat a lot of them but I am also wondering if it may be unhealthy because of too much fat or protein.

Thanks.
