Re: Water Fasting Labs - Need to know if must stop.
Mrs. H,
Normally, your blood potassium level is 3.6 to 5.2 millimoles per liter (mmol/L). A very low potassium level (less than 2.5 mmol/L) can be life-threatening and requires urgent medical attention. This is as per medical industry. But I have seen the range differ from hospital to hospital, doctor to doctor.
There is no way to tell when and if your potassium and other vitals will go lower as you progress in your fast. You are in your early stage of the fast and it should not concern you. The low levels of vitals are possibly a sign of poor diet, prescription drugs, diuretics including alcohol prior to the fast, and beyond that.
Your body is programmed to balance the use of its reserves during a water fast. It will not eat itself till starvation hits at a late stage in one's fast, beyond 35 days. It also protects the heart muscle even with low potassium levels.
I would continue the fast and keep an eye on how you really feel, if your heart palpitations are very heavy and other severe symptoms such as blood in vomit and/or urine.
Dr.
Shelton has written about deficiencies during a water fast.......
