Leaky gut protocol
Something that is not commonly known, is that leaky gut can occur in the small or large bowel. When you do a lactulose/mannitol test for leaky bowel you are only testing the small bowel. To test for large bowel leaky gut you need to use sucralose.
This is my current protocol for my leaky gut. I've had my small bowel tested and it is very leaky. I haven't had my large bowel tested but I am assuming it's leaky too.
- Paleo diet (lean meat to keep fat low)
- 12g glutamine
- 8.4g BGOS (Bimuno)
- 2 billion B. infantis (Align)
- 30 billion LGG (Eczema Relief/Culturelle)
- 1g EPA fish oil (Omega Brite)
- 900mg lactoferrin
- 15mg zinc
There is good
Science that LGG heals leaky small bowel. I'm hoping that boosting my bifidobacteria with Bimuno will heal my large bowel. Bifidobacteria produce lactic acid in the large bowel and other bacteria turn this lactic acid into butyrate, which is very therapeutic to the bowel wall. In mice GOS has been shown to increase bifidobacteria and reverse endotoxemia caused by leaky gut.
Any other suggestions? I'm thinking of adding VSL#3 later on, then curcumin (BCM-95).
