"What it is" Re: Timely Information Re: Super Tonic and Echinacea Tincture

Hi NB,

Dr. Schulze 's Super Tonic bottle is 1.5 oz. He calls that a "shot," so that's how much I usually use, gargled straight for as long as I can keep gargling, then swallowed. I'd wait a while before drinking, in order to keep the ST coating on my throat as long as possible. Not real good for the teeth though, I think.

Note that the stuff we made is from the recipe by Tom H., here: http://healingtools.tripod.com/thn8.html#sprtnc

This is not the formula Dr. S. sells in the 1.5 "shot" bottles, however, because it does not contain the herbs: Elderberry, Blackberry, Desert Sage, Yarrow, Boneset, Lobelia, and several others.

As made from the recipe linked above, the Super Tonic works great. We have made Lobelia and Boneset Tinctures that may be added if need be. And I usually take it with a teaspoon or two of 2X Echinacea and some Habanero Tincture, often with 9 drops of Poke Root T.

Super Tonic is something everyone should make.
We made a new batch this week, one gallon. Total cost for the ingredients, excepting our home grown garlic: $28.
I'm already skimming from the top of the covered glass bowl where it's sitting. Pressed out, this will probably fill two large vinegar bottles. I wonder if it's better to not press it and use it with the herb sludge. Kinda tough to gargle, maybe?

As for storage, stored in a cool basement, it seems to keep for at least a year. I just used the tail end of the last batch we made, which was fall of 5/2009.

2X Tincture is a tincture where you press it off from the herbs, then add more herb and top off with menstruum.

I've been letting the Echinacea Tincture sit for at least 6 weeks, and otherwise as long as I can, up to 4-6 months. Then, press it and add more root and let it sit at least 6 weeks. I started doing this because I was unable to obtain fresh Echinacea angustifolia root.

Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) is the original PUKE WEED. The stuff tastes rank, but guess what? If you brew a strongish Boneset leaf tea, you can add 5 tsp of that to one cup of hot water and it actually tastes pretty good, almost like real tea. Thus, it can be sipped all day long. This is one recommended method of using it that I found.

I have a marvelous Boneset plant (perennial), which first came up from a pot of nursery-purchased Echinacea p., where the Ech never made it, but this odd looking plant came up and it was so nifty-looking that I kept it right smack in front of the picture window where it was growing. Some Amish roofers told me, "That sure looks familiar, but we're not sure just what it is. It looks like something used for medicine." Once it flowered, I was able to look it up and find it was Boneset (E.p.), but the leaf structure is a dead giveway, so I should have been able to find it faster. The opposite leaves, united at their base, wrap completely around the stem, with each set being aligned 90 degrees from the set above or below it.

You'll read that into the early 20th century, most families kept some Boneset hanging in the rafters.

Boneset is a very useful plant, though not as important as Echinacea. There are several very different ways to use it, which give quite different results. Like I said, the taste is skanky at best. I've not needed a strong application yet, thank heavens!

[Edited to revise $38 to $28.]
