dream of war

I had a dream that I guess it was longer than this, but the only thing I can remember,is its last part of it.

I was in a war and a guy who had been my peer in it, took his things and said goodbye to me, telling me that he would never forget me. I assume that, that war was over.

Any clues about its possible meaning?
