We currently have one fairy that comes to visit us often. She likes to play with one of our cats. She plays "hide and seek" with him nearly every day. We end up fussing with her for teasing the cat when he ends up pawing at the cabinet door to get it open to find her. We open the cabinet door to show him she's not there. Fairies don't have a really long attention span, at least the ones we know don't. She flits in, lets Max chase her for a bit and then she off to who knows where, doing who knows what. I did get her to explain it to us once with my daughter being the translator. She followed us to Richmond when we moved and found a portal to the fairy realm and she divides her time between the two worlds. Now my daughter is older, she doesn't talk to the fairies as much so we don't have as many hanging around.
