I was reading this thread and found the discussion sympathetic dominant interesting. Although we may be born with tendencies to over-use our sympathetic nervous systems, there can be many causes and they are many different ways to overcome this tendency. It is good that you have a doctor that is open to different solutions and uses various modalities for treatment. I found an interesting site that uses a unique analysis method for determining sympathetic dominance based on sodium and potassium salt ratios, http://drlwilson.com/Articles/SYMPATHETIC%20DOMINANCE.htm,
and it also lists a number of things that work in favor of swinging your nervous system balance towards the parasympathetic side.
Personally, I have used a variety of meditation methods and qigong practices to help overcome stress, which is a symptom of overuse of the sympathetic nervous system. I have also used acupressure and acupuncture, but I consider these treatments as band-aids as compared to the meditation and qigong practices which I do daily.
