Harmonic Concordance - "coincidences" - Chiron
1977
*Chiron, the Wounded Healer, "discovered."
"Chiron takes us on a journey through our Darkness, personally and collectively, seeking the Light, in search of the Gift in the Wound." Chiron is the Rainbow Bridge which revealed a whole new level of astrological reckoning and which teaches us to look within problems for the solution.
Also in 1977:
*The release of the Apple II computer, Tandy TRS-80 and the Commodore Pet. (Regular people now had access to their own pre-built personal computer.)
*Cerf and Kahn mount a major demonstration, `internetting' among the Packet Radio
net, SATNET, and the ARPANET. (MAJOR leap forward in interpersonal computer relations, the precursor to what would become the Internet.) {{"This ARPA program has created no less than a revolution in computer technology and has been one of the most successful projects ever undertaken by ARPA. The full impact of the technical changes set in motion by this project may not be understood for many years." - from ARPANET Completion Report, January 3, 1978}}
(What a fitting way for our Chiron influenced journeys to begin. This was the very first stirrings of our ability to access the power of computers on a personal level and the first baby steps of what was to become the Internet phenomenom.)
A few other trivia tidbits from 1977:
* Star Wars was originally released, a cultural and special effects landmark. (Beginning a journey into a new realm of filmaking with very expansive cultural repercussions.)
* The five rings around Uranus are discovered. (Uranus represents changes, upsetting conditions, and sudden reversals, a fitting area of discovery to compliment the discovery of Chiron.)
* The space shuttle Enterprise makes its first test glide, from the back of a 747. (The baby steps of our ability for lay people to journey into the void of space.)
1978
*Love Canal, NY, evacuated due to dangerous toxic chemicals buried in the area.
*Amoco Cádiz oil tanker spill
(Chiron tells us to look into the problem for the solution, remember?)
1979
*Gaia theory proposed. (Taking us culturally from a view of an inanimate chunk of depletable resources to a living entity worthy and capable of healing.)
Now we jump forward to the Harmonic Convergence of 1987
1987
"August 16th Harmonic Convergence is said to have initiated a 25-year cycle of transition time when subtle currents would be released, accelerated, and intensified to work in the world, culminating on Dec. 21, 2012. This era of transition - from 1987 through 2012 - would be characterized by a global crisis in consciousness as the old gave way steadily to the new. It would mark the climax of the corrupt materialism of the industrial world, and make way for a new paradigm of unified planetary consciousness anchored in an illumined human population."
Other interesting incidents from 1987:
*Channel Tunnel digging commences (Connection)
*Gorbachev introduces the term "glasnost." (Openess in communication)
*Iran Contra affair
*Stock Market crash "Black Monday"
*Severe earthquake strikes Los Angeles (Major cultural influence center)
*Jessica McClure fell down the well bringing Americans together in a sympathetic
and televised event previously unmatched for a non-celebrity. (Connection, unification)
Also in 1987:
"The NSF, realizing the rate and commercial significance of the growth of the Internet, signs a cooperative agreement with Merit Networks which is assisted by IBM and MCI. Rick Adams co-founds UUNET to provide commercial access to UUCP and the USENET newsgroups, which are now available for the PC. (Basically, (forgive the vast overgeneralization, please) this was the start of the true backbone of the Internet.)
1988
*Gorbachev introduces "perestroika" in action. (A controversial move, but definitely one which had global ramifications.)
*The Internet starts to become more international with the connection of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
1989
*Democracy protest in Tianamen Square in Beijiing crushed
*Fall of the Berlin Wall
*The number of Internet host computers increases from 80,000 in January to 130,000 in July to over 160,000 in November! (What was once in the realm of universities and the military, with a sprinkling of independent hardcore geeks was now becoming accessible to the general public.)
*In Switzerland at CERN Tim Berners-Lee addresses the issue of the constant change in the currency of information and the turn-over of people on projects. Instead of an hierarchical or keyword organization, Berners-Lee proposes a hypertext system that will run across the Internet on different operating systems.
This was the World Wide Web.
(Gross oversimplification again, but this was revolutionary. The Internet was now to become full of pictures and movies and music and all kinds of stuff instead of being text based.)

Further research would undoubtably find other interesting events as well as find landmark events not in any recognizable connection to astrological phenomena. This is not meant to be a complete scientific accounting of the major events of the 20th century correlated to similar major astrological events, but rather as an curious sidenote to some parallels that just happened to catch my attention.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, "there ain't no such thang as coincidence!" ;)
