Re: non consistant fecal odor?

Yeah. I SO understand where you are coming from, having suffered a number of years with intermittent fecal odor although I never smell it myself, people have told me that they can smell it.

Well, I went to my general physician today (much through the courage given to me by this forum) and he said because there was no flatus or fecal incontinence, we must explore the cause root and that it would be a waste of time to refer me to a gastroenterologist (he thinks I'm f***ing nuts no doubt!!). He's asked me to keep a diary of when people mention the smell and in what circumstances. I forgot to mention that I'd been consistently and frequently douching to help clense the rectum and that I use copious amounts of strong smelling colognes and deodorants to mask it.

Some advice for you perhaps: Just say it! I went into his office and said that I'd been putting off seeing a doctor about this because I felt embarrassed and ashamed. I just went out and said that some people tell me I smell, more specifically of a fecal odor and that I'm dangerously anxious as a result. He asked if there was any incontinence (both flatus or fecal, which for me there isn't) and he said that we must explore the root of the cause. Now, I'm thinking that he thinks I'm nuts but hey, what the hell.

I'll keep the diary but WTF, why doesn't he just take me seriously!
