Absolutely it is... Survival of the fittest... among humans - wealth (ability to provide), prime territory (real estate\hunting grounds), breeding rights with the strongest most capable partners are fought for.

In the wild, a stronger, more resilient\adaptive species will overpower and dominate an area forcing the move and\or extinction of another species... accident or not; Your reference to the take over of indigenous peoples fits here.

I would expect, as the population continues to increase (if it does or does not), and\or the ability to provide for the population is strained even more, that competition for remaining resources (land\wealth\power over it) by competing powers will escalate into a frenzy at some point...

A lot of Conspiracy "theories" are born out of that.
