During recall period, I did not return any almonds I had from Trader Joes. After my supply ran out, I was able to keep buying raw almonds at a local Indian food store. They never stopped selling. Their almonds were in cleal plastic packaging without labels. Such local ethnic stores often buy bulk items overseas and repackage for retail. I doubt if their almonds are pastuerized since they shipped throughout the recall period. Almonds do not naturally have bacteria problems. This is a result of sloppy packaging practices. You may want to try some of these ethnic grocers.
An alternative source of raw almonds is to buy shelled almonds. These are more of a pain for heavy almond eaters like me, but are obviously not processed. Since they have not bene removed fromtheir shells, they cann't be contaminated by sloppy handling(other then by the end user)
Another alternative is "nutsonline.com". I think their nuts are still raw. I have bought spices from them but not nuts before since I can gets nuts local.
