I want to add my two cents because while I haven't experience with long term MC, I have done at least 10 day fast on the
Master-Cleanse for a long, long time (over a decade) so I do have a lot of experience with it. And I have never had any problems with the fast of any kind, except the obvious effects of detoxing from sugar/caffeine--the effects of which I don't think have anything to do with the
Master-Cleanse but with withdrawal from those chemicals by any means.
That said, I would be reluctant to think that any one thing works for every single body. We are all quite similar of course, but uniquely different too. So caution, reading, research, and understanding of your own state of health are necesssary.
I started
Master-Cleanse from reading the book Age of Enlightenment (
The Master Cleanse booklet wasn't available then to my knowledge). I didn't have any other information except the word of mouth of the person who recommended the book to me in the first place, as I had chronic bronchitis at the time that nothing would help (and yes, after that first fast the bronchitis dissappeared.) I've followed the book pretty much to the letter every time I've fasted, and only discovered this forum and thus the wealth of experience represented here, a month or so ago. Before then, I've been my only resource.
I've tried to do the fast at least once a year, often several times, either when I was feeling especially sluggish, or eating/health habits had fallen by the wayside, or when my body needed repair of something specific (for example, I had a seriously infected gum/tooth that I just didn't want to take the problem to a doctor, so I started the fast with much pain, and within a few days the infection was gone and my tooth/gum has been fine since.)
I've tried it in winter (a mistake for me...I got through 10 days, but struggled the whole way through and never felt the clarity that can come from it.) So I mostly find spring/summer and early fall to be the best times for it. I've never had a problem coming off of it either, and usually find that if I fast long enough, I maintain a healful attitude about how to live my life for quite some time afterward.
I generally eat pretty healthfully (by some standards VERY healthy, but by others maybe not--everyone has their own idea about that I think), not a vegetarian diet, but probably 80% vegetarian. I exercise regularly and am active, although I am overweight and have been most of my adult life. I don't have any particular overwhelming health issue, just the knocks and pings of my age (near 40). I say all of this to give you all some idea of my general state of health, in context to my not having any difficulties with the fast.
I just thought I'd relay some of my experiences to add to the mix.
