That seems very high to me.
I first took praziquantel under my naturopaths guidance and we went by what she looked up in her office ---both in her Physicians Desk Reference and another medical site on the web.
Both sources said the therapeutic dose was 600mg split into two separate doses, 300mg in the am and then 300mg in the pm. The dose was split because the body metabolizes it quick and to keep it in the blood steam longer you want to spread it out over a 24 hr period.
THAT WAS IT, that was all the P.D.R. said was required to treat
Tapeworm (etc), just the two 300mg doses.
She personally wanted me to repeat that one week later, and then 2 weeks later (3 times in all totaling 1800mg all together when finished). She wanted me to repeat the single 600mg treatment to catch possible eggs that could hatch later. The P.D.R. did not recommend the follow up though.
Where ever you got your instructions could possibly be the "needed" process to be effective with praz, BUT according to the P.D.R. that is WAY WAY to much and I would completely wait till you check things out. The P.D.R. of course is what allopathic docs look to for exact dosages (Not that they are gods either, but they are going to state the the relative safety or acceptable levels and what should not be exceeded). Keep in mind that drug misuseage is one of the TOP causes of death in the US, and that the P.D.R. is going to very CONSERVATIVE in their cautions. If they say something is dangerous you better well believe it -- and likewise if they give cautions on a pharmacutical drug, it is going to be understated. Generally they do the opposite with herbs (since they are the "competitor" to pharmacutical companies), but that is going pretty off topic.
By my own experience I am not in a position to say if that dose worked though since my symptoms did not improve afterwards. However my improvement may not have had anything to do with dose, but rather that I did not have a
Tapeworm or fluke problem to start with (at least not just a those).
My taking the praziquantel was one of the very first things I did in my quest to solve what was making me ill. I actually needed broad spectrum anti-
parasite treatment, I believe I did have some flukes, but the problem was bigger (recovered after full spectrum treatment). This probably is not necessary to explain but I took praziquantel before I really had ANY
parasite knowledge, I was pretty much just going by what a bio-energy assistant at my naturopaths office suggested after taking a few readings (and my symptoms were indicative of a
parasite problem). I didn't have much money and was cutting corners so skipped stool testing... "Response to therapy" is another way to test for
parasites though, and I figured it would be less expensive to just try praziquantel, and be on my way to tackling the problem if it indeed was flukes or tapeworm. Turned out not to be, at least not the WHOLE problem!
After working on my own (with Curezone) and doing the full
Hulda Clark anti-parasite herbals (including
Tapeworm and cleanup) I DID finally snap out of it and recoverd!!!
Anyway, I would urge you to be very cautious about that dosage. I can't see anyone needing that much. I know they have the P.D.R.'s at any public library, I would go peak at it and obtain the
Science info on the drug. It should tell you what levels you should never exceed.
