I have had candida and chronic illness most of my life. The ONLY time I have ever felt better was when my GP put me on antidepressants - namely Lustral/Sertraline which belongs to the SSRI group of antidepressants. I could eat what I wanted - I had energy, my digestion improved it was amazing (and no - I wasnt just depressed). I took the drug the for five years but then when I came off it my symptoms returned - and WORSE. The drug is very hard on the liver and I personally think that a weak congested liver is at the root of disease. These drugs do contain powerful antifungal properties but on the other hand they are just suppressing the symptoms all the while weaking the immune system and taxing the liver.

I am happy to see this topic addressed. My doctor put me on a new supplement called D5. I take 4 in the AM 1 hr. before I eat and 4 PM. I started w/1 and worked my way up. I did feel nauseated taking them w/out food at first. I am noticing reduced anxiety and OCD tendencies in only 4 days. I noticed it right away. I have less fear and feel less anxious. I feel far less depressed as well. I went through a period when I was in my head all the time with the "what if's" just waiting for something to go wrong. Now I am more in the "now", I feel like I did when I was on Zoloft. D5 is a supplement that has Vitamin C, B6, Folate (folic acid), L-lysine, 5-HTP, L-Tyrosine, and Mucuna Puriens. I also read a book on treating anxiety that was extremely informative called "The Anxiety Epidemic" which talks about treating depression, fear, anxiety, Panic attacks, with amino acids. The author, an C.N.C. (and Ph.D) is Billie Jay Sahley. She talks about the adrenals some in the book as well. I read that if you have weak adrenals you do not get enough seretonin, I also read that most of the seretonin is in the GUT so if you have Candida, you will not be getting enough seretonin. Also- if you have weak adrenals you do not produce enough HCI, digestive enzymes and you are prone to leaky gut. The key is to treat your adrenals as well as getting rid of the Candida/because the adrenals or thyroid (endocrine system) may be the root cause. I have been juicing while taking the supplements (amino acids) and have been feeling better. I put garlic in the juicer and I can tell that it is killing the yeast. I do only green veggies for carrots and beats have too much sugar. My diet is now almost all raw and though it is making me detox horribly (I cannot work and have extreme fatigue, acne, etc.) I do see a light at the end of the tunnel for the first time. I am alkalizing my very acidic body. I use cilantro because it pulls out the heavy metals, dandelion greens for the liver, garlic for the yeast and a whole host of other green veggies.
