A week ago I had posted a question about fasting while on medication. I really didn't get an answer (except someone saying they were against psych meds). So I'm posting again in hopes that someone will be able to give me some advice at least.

I'm just not sure if a fast is safe while on meds. None of the meds I'm currently on need to be taken with food. But I wonder if it's counterproductive to fast while I'm still putting toxins into my body. Is it even safe? That's what I really want to know. I'm having trouble finding the answers on my own so I'm posting here.

A bit of background (you can skip if you want to):

I am diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder with Psychotic Features. That basically means that my moods are all over the place. When they get extremely elevated or extremely low I will hallucinate and lose contact with reality. For a while I treated it naturally (herbs and acupuncture) but I couldn't afford to keep that up. So I had to go on medication. I would love to go off the medication as I feel that it's horrible for my body. But alas I can't right now (CPS has become involved and I have to get a blood test every two months to make sure I'm taking them). Also if I go off the medication now I might wind up in the hospital for the 13th time. I was told if I'm admitted one more time I'll be in danger of losing my kids. Especially if it's because I wasn't med compliant.

I've been on the meds for nearly 3 years. Well not the same meds. My body seems to build up a tolerance quickly so I'm constantly changing what I'm on. Before I was on meds I was very concious about my body and what I put in it. But after I went on the meds I gave up. I felt I was poisioning my system and shortly after I began to smoke and eat horribly.

I'm trying to change things. I want to get healthy again. So I'm cutting out of my diet and lifestyle things which are unhealthy. However for the past 3 years I've seriously poisoned my body. I would like to get rid of the toxins that have built up.

There are many reasons I want to fast. While meditating I was "told" that I need to fast for spiritual, mental, and physical reasons. While researching fasting I've learned about the numerous health benifits. I want to purify myself physically and spiritually. I'm not sure how long I'll fast for. I was originally thinking maybe just a week. But I may go longer if I can. My family won't be understanding and I have dinner with them often. But I can figure a way to get through that. There's also weightloss but I'm looking at that more as a benifit than a reason (I'm 200 lbs and 5' 5"...the past 3 years have been aweful to my body).
