Is there anyway of getting rid of the bloating and swelling with IBS? I have tried various diets, acupuncture, drink loads of water, even resorted to extreme methods like making myself sick, taking laxatives and starving myself. I have always been slim and had a flat stomach until I got IBS. I'm 22 and could have this condition for years due to my stressful job (I run a large dance school, stage school and gymnastics school by myself). I'm active, I have been doing sit-ups all the time and use a slendatone everyday aswell, my muscles are as toned as can be but I still have a big swollen stomach. I don't want to be one of those people who keeps getting asked 'when's the baby due' and having to suffer the embarrassment of telling them I'm not actually pregnant. My stomach is so swollen constantly that I do actually look ike I'm pregnant (I'm not though) and have actually had a couple of friends ask me if I am. I've tried talking to my doctor, but being a man, he just didn't understand how stressful it is for a women of my age to have a fat looking stomach and how much of a big effect it can have on someones life. It is having a major effect on my life and I am desperate for help! I can handle all the other symptoms of IBS (and mine is fairly chronic) just not the fat swollen pregnant belly. I was just reading your post and was a bit surprised. You say you had a flat tummy until you got IBS upon which it became swollen? Usually IBS would make it difficult to eat well, therefore losing weight rather than gaining weight. I'm wondering about your case, and whether its candida related. You could look into it. Be wary of garlic though, as it can further reduce friendly gut bacteria. For candida my preference is UVA URSI, then replenishing friendly gut bacteria with a good quality probiotic powder every morning.
With regard to reducing body fat percentage, its not usually safe to go below 10%, but that would be the best way of removing the extra belly. Situps only work the muscles but cardiovascular exercise such as running removes the fat, of which it looks like your doing a lot of it by dancing.
Controlling diet changes is very hard, but can be done slowly by gradually reducing caloric intake, or become a raw foody. The danger here is losing too much weight too quickly. Depending on your blood type certain foods will always put on weight - if your blood type O - avoid sweetcorn, milk and grains, if your blood type A - avoid bread and milk. Milk puts on the weight so avoiding this would certainly help. Alchohol is definately another cause of a belly.

This is a reply to # 1,092,524Try some Yoga on a daily basis and get yourself checked out by a chiropractor for any subluxation. bloating could be caused by spine out of alignment.

Spinal subluxations can cause all kinds of health problems, which have no connection to back aches. I would suggest getting your spince checked out by a good chiro.
I read that kidney problems, liver / GB problems could also be caused by mislaigned spine. Even High BP.
Sometimes the results can be miraculous.
Something else to try out is good yoga practice. I think yoga helps in elimination. If eimination is good, bloating cannot happen.

This is a reply to # 1,092,524I would suggest activated charcoal and probiotics, and good oils like EFA's and also some good olive oil everyday. Without good oils the liver cannot produce bile, without bile digestion becomes labored.
Another thing - eat pineapple, papaya and/or get some digestive enzymes.
Too much raw or high in fiber foods can also cause bloating in some cases, so balancing is key.
Have you done a liver cleanse? I have seen references that a congested liver can cause extreme bloating. A liver cleanse is rather rejuvenating and feels like one's pampering oneself for a change.
I hope you find answers, there is a longtime user that posted about severe bloating, I wonder if he has found a solution? Maybe type 'bloating' in the search box?
These things worked for me - but I do not suffer from IBS - mine was a result of poor digestion resulting from one year stint into a comecial weigh loss diet (UUUGHHH - bad idea)
Uh, and cayenne - wonderful cayenne: add it to your food, broths or mix with lemon and take a shot daily. It will help your gut immensely.

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,092,524I have this exact same problem. I have put on about 8 kilos in a matter of 2 months and have been diagnosed with IBS. I am 22 and have always been fit & have had a tiny stomach. I read someones reply about a diet... I think this could be the culprit for me also so I am going to try a liver cleanse. I also have spinal lubsaxations and the pain arrived at the same time as the IBS. But I have been going to see the chiro twice a week for over a month now & I still look 9 months pregnant. Please let me know your progress, my doctor has the same attitude! males!

This is a reply to # 2,046,894The problem is, the bloating seems to be irritated tissues swelling. It's some kind of reaction, possibly histamine (my guess because of the swelling), like an allergic reaction. Mine is getting unbearable. It's painful.

This is a reply to # 1,092,524I have had that happen... for a long time. Depending on what is causing your bloating, if it is just candida, the McCombs plan really does work to get rid of it and will flatten your stomach out. I would also recommend getting your heavy metals tested, because mercury or heavy metal poisoning can cause all kinds of G1 Problems too. Doctor's Data does the test for Heavy metal toxicity. You can always call Doctor's Data and ask them for the name of a doctor who uses that test in your area. I hope this helps you. God bless.

This is a reply to # 2,150,532I should also say, I've done the McCombs Plan twice. Again, it really does work. My problem, it keeps coming back, so there is another root cause as to why the candida dysbiosis keeps coming back. I just found out I have very toxic levels lead and mercury, in addition to some other metals. They think that is the root cause of my problems. I am sharing this information with you so that you may be able to test for that and rule it out as a root cause. I never would have suspected heavy metals, and It took me a lot of money and many visits to many different doctors to find that out. I am currently at the beginning of IV chelating the metals out.
