That was the recommended - refined, by Dr. Karach but most of us are using organic unrefined oils. The main reason he recommended refined was because of inpurities/pesticides that might be found in unrefined in that part of the world. You should do well with organic unrefined.
One thing I have noticed is I switched to a more high falutin' olive oil *frankly, better than I usually buy to bake with* and sure enough, the results have been much better with it. So the quality of your oil can also affect your pull.
It is unlikely you have done any damage by using the refined, I know there are others using it as well and it was recommended for the original study. People are getting great results with all kinds of oils, coconut, apricot, hemp. There might be a certain oil better suited to you, you will have to experiment a bit.
