HEllo,
I have a 3 yr old and a 5 month old. The 3 yr old has been taking "buffered ascorbic acid" like sodium ascorbate..or a mix of sodium , calcium and magnesium ascorbate..mixed in juice. I put half juic half water in a sippy cup and mix in a gram of vit c powder..the buffered kind is not even acidic tasting. MY daughter now is very used to it and will even take 1-2 grams of straight ascorbic acid in juic/water. (i add the water to juice because i never give her straight juice..too much sugar/carbs etc. I also can give her 500mg chewables that taste pretty good and are available at any drug store/health food store.
For the baby..more difficult. Recently my 5 month old had a high fever of 103plus. I mixed some ascorbic acid in breast milk but it tasted very acidic (i didnt have the buffered form). I used a syringe medicine dispensor(the kind they give you free at the pharmacy counter) and syringed in into the back of the baby's mouth slowly..she did try and spit it out..but at least some got in. Her fever was gone in 1 day. It turned out she had an ear infection too. That lingered 1 more day and then was also gone.
It is better to used the buffered c with infants and small children only because they will be more apt to take it.
You can make your own buffered c powder by mixing 3 part ascorbate acid powder with 1 part baking soda. (i believe thatis the ratio)
Hope this can help.
