Sounds like buffalo is to cow, what wild boar is to pig.
Do you get wild boar over there? We're very lucky to live in a hunting region. The dogs, used to drive the boar (and sows) to the guns,sometimes get lost. As we are the only habitation around they often end up with us and our reward for catching them is a haunch, shoulder, or maybe a whole baby pig. Yum, yum, no fat and a wonderful flavour from all the chestnuts and other things they've eaten.
