Hi. Well, actually, you don't need $ to find this out. Most of what I learned has just been through trial and error, writing down what I eat and what I take, noticing how I feel and becoming familiar with what symptoms mean what. I did shell out a few bucks ($170) at first to get a base line IgG allergy panel done, but it was only a baseline, as some things it said I was not allergic to, I do react to, and vise versa. But the majority of what I have learned has come from slowing down (stopped throwing every supposed candida treatment down my throat, as I figured out this was making my allergies and liver go bonkers) and paying attention to how I feel when I do or do not take stuff. I am not 100% sure I am allergic to capryllic acid anymore, but grapefriut seed for sure. The problem is that, I seem to be at the point where my body has had enough antifungals, and now taking them (with the exception of Candex, which is pretty mild) seems to exacerbate my problems instead of helping them, and I think that is because my liver has been compromised by 2 years of heavy use. Which was needed to get the candida under control, but now, after eating well for 2 years and getting in touch with how liver function and allergies play a huge part, I think my "killing" phase is coming to an end, and the body, if spared allergens, and liver is supported, is recovering on its own. I have found that when I consume too many allergens, it affects my liver function, and when my liver function is down, candida symptoms tend to re-surge. So, i do think folks that say liver is key are right on the money. So, right now I am focusing on probiotics, liver support, nutritional support, and Candex. I am the best I have been in 2 years, so it is working.
So, what are my allergies? Here is a pretty good list:
wheat, corn, (actually most grains except a bit of white rice and oatmeal here and there), grapefruit, vinegars, potatoes, garlic (maybe), broccoli and the cabbage family, milk and milk products, soy flour and beans (but tofu and soy milk are ok), cherry tomatoes (regular are fine), soy sauce,
Mono-Sodium-Glutamat (Natrium Glutamat) (if I eat anything with
Mono-Sodium-Glutamat (Natrium Glutamat) now I actually will halluciniate!), berries, teas (even herbals), grapes, dill, swordfish, eggs, yeast and most cheese. As for supplements, grapefruit seed extract, which means that anything that has that in it as part of a candida fighting formula is off limits. I also cannot take pau d'arco (sp?) Nor could I take 3-lac, and there are a host of over the counter things in health food stores that have one or more of the herbals which are problematic for me. I also cannot tolerate psyllium or
Bentonite or xylitol. I have basically gone from thinking that if I get a bad reaction to something that it must be die off and thus good for me, to being very suspicious of anything that gives me an immediate reaction, and discontinuing, and that has served me well. Plus, I don't really get die off any more, and I have to assume, since I am feeling better that there is not enough to die off in there anymore.
Being allergic to vinegars has made trying cultured veggies impossible. I have not done a liver flush, instead use gentler approaches (at least so far) to support my liver function (use LVR Formula by Pure Encapsulations, and will soon try a modified fast my doc recommends). I do put olive oil on just about everything though, so I get a lot of that even w/o flushing. I had been doing enemas, but they made things worse. Stirring up more toxins that my liver could process. Seems to boil down to, if my liver is in good shape, candida takes care of itself. The "less is more" approach, after the initial candida kill, seems to be working well for me.
Yes, when I am on stuff that is causing more harm than good, it really messes with my blood sugars. I wake up with 300's in the morning when things are off. It is especially true when my liver is compromised, and there is a big relaitonship between the liver and blood
Sugar levels, so that is not too surprising. The crux is that, for me, the liver is still not up to snuff, so it cannot process toxins from allergens and that is what causes the allergic symptoms. And also, if I have say, a week where nothing passes my lips that I react to, that helps de-stress the liver (and helps heal leaky gut) , and then I can eat more things after that w/o reacting. Not sure if that makes sense, but it is my experience.
