Hi to all,
I know a lot has been already said about activated charcoal on this forum, and despite having read all the possible topics regarding activated charcoal, I'm still wondering whether or not it interferes with beneficial bacteria. I've used charcoal for monthes with great success, but wondered if it could be harmful when not used as part of a healing program (let's say if you're on a SAD diet, could it adsorb good bacterias along with the bad, making you more prone to candida overgrowth kind of like an Antibiotic does).
The same goes for Bentonite clay.

Activated charcoal adsorbs much of the toxins that Candida produces that otherwise would be absorbed by the blood and carried throughout the body. MoreThis is a reply to # 2,062,251Thanks water, but I've already read that and actually know it pretty well because charcoal kind of saved my life when I was dealing with life-threatening die off symptoms.

This is a reply to # 2,062,256"Life" (of all types & sizes) typically THRIVES in the presence of activated charcoal - due to the chacoal adsorbing a vast array of chemical & biological toxins & poisons.
A quick google with "activated charcoal" + microbiota reveals that charcoal's adsorbtion of toxins (including Antibiotic residuals) increases the levels & health of microbiota in plants, animals & humans.
Fundamentally, a build-up of substances atop the tissue of the GI tract, along with the presence of toxins, prevents or lessens the recolonization of microbiota. Charcoal is VERY beneficial in removing the toxins (and of course, deep/fiber colon cleansing & Liver Cleansing are essential for creating a terrain that will allow for recolonization of microbiota).
I can not imagine how a substance as natural & healing as activated charcoal could "adsorb" a living organism. Anything that harms microbiota harms/prevents healing in general...and healers have used charcoal successfully/safely for centuries. However, anything that removes poisons & toxic gasses encourages the growth & health of every living organism.
Methinks it's way too easy to over-analyze and complicate natural healing (and ignore the basics we don't want to know). For example, EMFs have a HORRENDOUS effect on intestinal microbiota (and all cells & systems that support them)...so ditching the Cell Phone s, wifi, DECT phones, etc., is essential for healing & life itself.

Although I have to say I am a bit skeptic, because charcoal definitly killed parasites on its own for me. That might be due to the fact that it relieves the toxic load on the body though, allowing it to fight pathogens more efficiently. If that is correct, then charcoal is nearly the perfect tool to use in any healing program.
One strange observation I have to make, is that Bentonite clay would actually give bad candida die-off symptoms. Why do you think this is if I may ask?- Re: Activated charcoal and probiotic... unyquity

True candida die off symptoms are caused by one main thing - and that's alcohol withdrawal. No/less candida to convert carbs/sugar to alcohol, no/less alcohol in the bloodstream = alcohol withdrawal. Google the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and candida die-off and then compare them - almost exactly the same.
Of course, as the dead candida degrade/digest, they also give off some toxins...but that's nothing compared to the alcohol withdrawal.
SO, if Bentonite adsorbs alcohol then it could increase the "die off" symptoms. BUT I've *never* heard of that - in fact, I've seen Bentonite recommended to LESSEN symptoms.
Our "strange observations" can be very deceiving, as our bodies and our diet are not 'sterile laboratories' where any/all variables are adequately & consistently obvserves. Taking bentonite is but one variable of LOTS of variable...the state of our organs/bloodstream each day-hour/minute; our exposure to EMFs (just being near an unidentified tower for a few minutes can cause people to experience all manner of reactions for days; being within yards of someone using a phone affects us biologically for hours; holding a Cell Phone to our head for a few minutes blows the blood-brain barrier for 20-30 minutes); the amount of water/fluids ingested; the foods, juices, herbs ingested (and whether or not they have an effect on candida) - the list is endless. And on top of that there's the variables of how all those things affect each other - with and without the bentonite in play.
So we ALL need to be cautious with our assumptions when we add one thing and experience something different than what 'most others' experience. It may (or may not) be that "one thing"...or it could be that 'one thing' in a combination with various other things.
'Not saying what you experienced wasn't real - 'just saying that self-diagnosis and not considering ALL the variables is always a very slippery slope...and our health & healing depends upon us knowing, accepting and doing our best to deal with it :)

This is a reply to # 2,295,156Charcoal adsorbs toxins. It is not 'decaying organic matter' (so it does not provide nourishment for yeast). It is not Sugar (so it does not cause the fermentation process creating alcohol & gas).
I see no reason that one should avoid charcoal in the presence of a yeast overgrowth.
