I recently started “ATP Cofactors” and it seems to be causing sleep problems. I wake up around 2-3 am (in oriental medicine, this corresponds to liver time), and have trouble falling back asleep. This has also happened in the past whenever I took large doses of niacin (a close relative of “inositol hexaniacinate”). In the past I’ve been told I have a weak liver by iridologists and chiropractors (I never drink alcohol, this is a weakness I was born with). Previous to this I was taking a B-complex with B co-enzymes and never experienced these sleep problems.
Any thoughts on this? – has anyone else experienced problems from ATP Cofactors?
I like the product because I have more steady energy through the day, but I have to get my sleep and I don’t want to damage my liver. So it appears this product does't seem to fully agree with me due to it’s effect on my sleep, though for most people, it’s probably great.
According to this site below, “inositol hexaniacinate” can harm the liver:
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Naturopathy-3401/2009/9/Niacin.htm
..."If you want the cholesterol lowering benefits, then a form like inositol hexaniacinate will cause less flushing (you also do not flush with niacinamide), but can still hurt your liver. Anyone taking high-dose niacin for cholesterol (or another reason) should have their liver enzymes checked regularly."
