"I'm currently going through severe PTSD and only a small dose benzo has helped me. It's a double edge sword. I'm trying to heal my adrenals. Copper detox. Stay calm. I figure 2 to 3 weeks of a benzo will hopefully help me get through this rough patch in my life while I pound my body with vitamins and nutrients."
I was given benzo many decades ago after having to bail out of a burning jet fighter at night at a very low altitude. My pilot didn't make it. Even then, I found benzo to be a horrible crutch and swore I'd never use it again. I didn't. Many years later was given Valium by and MD when I had difficulties at work. The effects were horrible and once more swore to never take another one and haven't done that again either.
Then, about 25 years ago the love of my life left me and I went into deep, deep PTSD - related to very early childhood sexua| abuse which I had earlier denied but which now exploded and actually re-experienced as if it were currently happening. I couldn't sleep more than 25 or 30 minutes at a time without waking up to horrible nightmares. I moved my computer and a desk into my bedroom and didn't come out for anything but necessities and counseling. They wanted to give me prescription drugs but I refused. I basically stayed in my bedroom and meditated for an hour or more each day. My meditation finally pulled me through and I'm a much better person for what I've experienced.
I would suggest finding a meditation that you are comfortable with and learn and use it. There are no drugs which in fact get you through PTSD. All of them drug you up so that you can ignore the PTSD. Meditation cures all sorts of ill - physical and spiritual.
CBT is an excellent counseling therapy for PTSD. Saw a documentary on PBS a couple of years ago and it followed a Vietnam War vet who had been homeless for many years due to PTSD from battle in Vietnam and nothing had worked for him. He was back to a productive life and a job after about 20 CBT sessions.
Best to you in your journey. It's all about self discovery.
