When you go to the company's investor day all they talk about is the marketing program. It's just a giant marketing machine designed to sell whatever they're peddling. They could probably sell crap as gourmet chocolate. People are taken in and brainwashed by the marketing and the sheer clout of the program crushes most other alternatives. It's amazing how many other better tasting and higher quality soft drinks Coke has put out of business around the world. Meanwhile, their products have become increasingly mediocre in taste comparisons (blind taste tests where people don't know what it is they're tasting so the marketing hype can't color their judgement).
