Hi Total Prosperity,
the bowels do normally return to their full vigour after a fast of any length in their own good time.
"Constipation is a common term applied to the failure of the bowels to act or to sluggishness of
colonic function. Most people who think they are constipated are not. The prescr*iption given by Dr Page is almost infallible. It is: "Mind your own business, and let the bowels mind theirs". Treat the bowels kindly; give up the prodding and forcing that has brought them to their present state of inertia.
If the food is wholesome and digestion is good, what does it matter that the food or its residues remain in the colon for a longer period than is commonly thought normal"?
Dr H M Shelton....Fasting For Renewal of Life. Pages 267-268.
Lack of exercise coupled with a sedentary occupation are contributing factors in the cause of sluggish bowels and genuine constipation as well.
Fasting while constipated is not a problem; it will give the bowels & colon a much needed rest, but once the fast is over, the bowels will return to normal with the correct refeeding and living habits thereafter.
