Blog: My 30 Day Juice Fast Journal
So I've read from numerous sources that it makes sense to do a pre-cleanse (if you will) of the body before jumping into the juice fast head on. This is especially reccomended for people who are alcohol/tobacco users (of which I am both--although I won't be returning to tobacco post-fast). From what I've read you are suppose to eat nothing but raw fruits and vegetables for the 5 days prior to the juice fast.
Pre-Fast Day 5
Today (actually I'm writing this on Pre-fast day #2) was the first day of the pre-fast and it went just fine. I woke up and made my favorite fresh juice(which is equal parts Beet, Carrot, Spinich & Apple) which I call the "standard". Then I went out and did errands with the wife. Had lunch at sweet tomatoes (had an enormous salad) and another "standard" for dinner. I felt completely full and not hungry in the least. I slept like a rock.
Pre-Fast Day 4
I had to wake up early because I need to go in for blood-work (just standard stuff as I'm 31 and haven't had a blood check done in.....forever). I got up and mixed a standard of about 16oz which I immediately put into my thermos. I had to actually fast for the blood draw so I didn't have any for breakfast (I still wasn't hungry in the morning anyway??). I got to the lab at 5:50am (it opens at 6am) and there was already a line formed outside of 17 people!!!!! When I finally got into the lab and signed in it was already 6:20am. My name wasn't even called until 7:20 by which time I had to leave as I had to be at work by 7:30. I didn't want to leave but I had to. I thought....well maybe I can hold out until lunch and go then. I didn't think I'd be able to hold out but shockingly....I was only the slightest bit hungry by lunch-time so I pushed through and went back. They had a hard time finding a vein (note to anyone having blood drawn and fasting--drink a lot of water) but they eventually did. After that I was definitly feeling slightly weak. I didn't think the juice would be able to fill me up enough but I was wrong. I went home and had an average side salad for dinner and again felt just fine. I was tired though, so I went to bed around 9pm.
Pre-Fast Day 3
Today was a pretty normal day with a "standard" juice (11oz) for breakfast and lunch and a salad for dinner. My stomach grumbled a fair amount today but I didn't really feel hungry. I've been drinking about 2-3 liters of water in between the juices and the salads (I havn't had anything else to drink). I also felt more tired tonight although it didn't feel strange (just like I needed the rest which I normally feel like I don't).
Pre-Fast Day 2
I stepped on the scales this morning and noted that I have lost 8 lbs already!!! I've gone from 240 to 232 without even noticing and I haven't even started the actual fast!!!(I'm sure most of that is water weight--but still) I did get some potentially disturbing news as my doctor called with the results from the blood test. It showed that I have elevated Liver enzymes (no doubt due to my steady alcohol use over the past ten years ) and he wants me to get a liver ultrasound. Thankfully, everything else looked pretty good. I made an appointment for the following week.
As far as the diet for today it was the same. Two 11oz of my "standard" for breakfast and for lunch and a salad for dinner. So far I still don't feel hungry when I stick to this routine. I have started to notice that my skin is very itchy and my tounge is feeling very coated (with a foul taste). I've read that these are common elements of the cleansing process. So far they don't seem to bad. I've specifically timed this fast so I can start the first full day this Saturday (I hope to spend it cleaning, doing some light exercise and meditating). Till next time....
Any words of advice during this or the first part of my fast is highly appreciated :)

Hey there,
The pre-fast is real easy. Just eat only fresh fruits and vegetables for the week prior to the fast. I actually had a juice for breakfast and lunch then had a large salad for dinner every evening. You can do fresh fruits for breakfast and salads for lunch too if you want. The key (so I have read) is to try to eat everything raw (if possible). Nothing cooked.
You are wide open on the juice fast for just about anything you want (as long as it's fresh squeezed--no bottled juices at all). I have sort of have a "standard" that I use fairly often of Carrot, Beet and Apple (with Parsley, Spinich and Cucumber mixed in) Let me know if you want anything more specific.
Peace,
Bearded One
