As simple as that! I went to a million doctors and no one got it right. I fought this for 8 months and nothing worked. I got perscribed vaseline, cremes and other things meant to treat the problem from the outside instead of the inside, as it should have been.
It started with a small patch on my top upper lip and spread onto both lips. I was swollen and in horrible pain. I was depressed.. I couldn't kiss my boyfriend. I couldn't even look in the mirror without crying.
Thank god I finally found a doctor that got it right, right away. She told me that it was probably related to malabsortion. Looked at me up and down and said "make sure you eat lots of gluten, so if you are celiac, it shows up in your exam".
It's only a blood test and takes a few days to get the results back. It was positive, of course!
I WAS THRILLED. Hopeful for the first time. She told me that vitamins hadn't helped before because I couldn't absorbe them properly. I was put on a strict gluten free diet (I mean very strict.. I only ate home made food for a month because I was afraid of cross-contamination. Getting CC on your dish can be as bad as actually eating a gluten meal..). I also started taking vitamins again, to speed up the process!
My progress:
- After 1 week: No longer swollen. All I was applying was olive oil all the time, as always (I needed something soft, because hard lip balms or vaseline made me hurt when I applied it).
- After 2 weeks: EC was half its original size.. I cried from happiness. Started applying the olive oil less often because lips didn't hurt, so I forgot.
- After 3 weeks: My doctor decided to put me on desonide to speed things up, because she knew that what we were doing was working. I only applied it once a day for 7 days. My EC became only a thin line on the inner most part of both lips.
- After 4 weeks: no longer on desonide, applied only olive oil in the morning and before sleeping. EC reverted only to top middle lip and very small bits on my lower lip that I only saw when I got out of the shower, because those bits still turned white in contact with water.
- After 5 weeks: EC almost gone. Top middle lip still turned white in contact with water but it was a very small bit. Applied absolutely nothing because I didn't need it.
- After 6 weeks: EC GONE. ABSOLUTELY GONE.
It has been 3 months and it hasn't returned. I feel better than ever. This is a miracle to me.. And all you have to do is be careful and shop for a different brand when you are at the supermarket. Totally worth it.
PLEASE GET TESTED. It is only a blood test. There is no excuse not to get it done, and it may change your life for the better! Like it did for me.
And hey! If it comes out negative, at least you can rule this out.
I didn't have any other symthoms (even though I now realise that I used to be a bit bloated, but it felt normal to me at the time, so it didn't count. I can only tell in comparisson). Statistics say that around 1 in 100 people is celiac! So the odds are in your favor if, like me, you have also tried everything and just want to get the proper diagnosis! :)
Good for you. Have you got pictures of your lips before and after? You felt swelling and horrible pain, I didn't and don't, so maybe it isn't the same form of cheilitis!
I had a coloscopy and my cellular tissue was fine. But, always good to report!

Congratulations. And yea, pictures would be great. It doesn't sound like the same thing many of us have here. My lips aren't really swollen all that much and the only time it kind of hurts is if I manually peel both lips. But that "pain" that I only feel if the lips touch subsides after a day or so.

Bradbutter is a dumbass. This is well known by now.
He just chimes in every once in awhile, when he is scowering for women on an EC forum. What a f***ing loser.

hey congrats like the others have asked pictures would be amazing and if your sincere im sure you would be happy to help a few of us out with some questions and pictures!
for example what kind of peeling cycle did you have and also did you avoid trauma during these 6 weeks. its kind of strange becasue normally it takes months and months for a diet to have such an effect straight away. especially a gluten free diet.
but anyways thanks for sharing! well done.
and also about what brad says you guys i know are really positive but unfortunately there are people that change there account names and play stupid ridiculous lame games on forums. which frankly i think is lame. and if somebody really cures there ec im sure they would be more then happy to hang around on the forum for a few days answering questions as im sure they know the pain and frustration ec brings and would just wanna help others out!

Thank you for the hope!!:) xoxo I also have celiac disease. I tried a gluten-free diet for only a few weeks, but my lips did not heal so I was not sure if it was the cause. Right now, I am living with others who get frustrated with me for not eating regular food and all the fresh food I need takes up too much space in our fridge. I was planning on moving sooner just so I can hog the kitchen with all my fresh food so no one will give me a hard time about not eating regular food. I am moving sometime this year for sure.
The steroid cream you tried just might make the difference to speed things up. I also have no other noticeable symptoms except for bloating. However, I have never known why I had brain fog meaning my head felt dizzy so I preferred to lie down instead of concentrate on work.
Are you skinny? When I told a medical practitioner that I had celiac disease, she said everyone she has come across with celiac disease is skinny like me.
I forgot to ask if you had raw skin with fordyce spots on top lip? My EC started with the middle of top lip peeling, then it became raw many years later. Now, just my lower lip peels. Did you have ....
I forgot to ask if you had raw skin with fordyce spots on top lip? My EC started with the middle of top lip peeling, then it became raw many years later. Now, just my lower lip peels. Did you have dark circles under your eyes (due to food allergies )?
Also, what type of doctor did you see? And do you eat dairy?
Need help-
I am on the GAPS diet (still intro stages-have done the GAPS diet before) and decided to try a coffee enema to help with migraines, etc.
Did my first enema on Sunday and everything seemed to go fine (was very careful to follow all directions and started out with a low level-only 1teaspoon of enema specific coffee to two cups water).
However, starting Monday my bowel movements became very sore, despite being soft, and painful. I have not had another enema but am also having a larger number of BMs throughout the day with a soft consistency and very broken up. Am I still cleansing out from the one enema three days ago b/c the number of bowel movements seems excessive in relation to my food intake. Also, is the burning/painful nature of my BMs due to acid from the coffee or something or bile??
Any help would be appreciated, tired of having a sore bottom and a bit afraid to try another coffee enema.
You should do a cleansing enema after the coffee if possible. Remember the coffee is acidic and can irritate the colon lining.

If you're having BM problems, you're going to really need to increase your fruit intake on this GAPS diet, because I don't see a lot of fiber with their emphasis on animal products, a big warning sign for me personally.
May I ask what your doing GAPS for?
I eat high-carb/low-fat with only fruit and a lot of it during morning through afternoon and a lot of whole grains with mostly leafy greens in the evenings and my BMs have never been better, all my headaches went away, and most of my other illnesses.
I had the same experience. Now, I clean the bowels first with boiled body temp water until I’m as clean as I can be, then I do the coffee enema with two teaspoons of coconut oil. Then I do a boile ....
I had the same experience. Now, I clean the bowels first with boiled body temp water until I'm as clean as I can be, then I do the coffee enema with two teaspoons of coconut oil. Then I do a boiled water (body temp) again with one teaspoon coconut oil to clean out the coffee.
No soreness and bowel movements restore within a day.
If you have not tried coconut oil before, put a little on your mouth first to see if you get some reaction. Good luck :)

It is a big warning sign. Definitely the wrong diet for long term health. Just don't eat the fruit with the flesh. You can't deny the body it's necessary fuel of complex carbohydrates. The action of converting protein to a carbohydrate type fuel leaves unhealthy metabolic debris from the process.
The body will not be denied what it needs to function. Excess animal based protein is extremely damaging to your organs and bones.

SINCE 2012, Speciesism: The Movie director Mark Devries has been secretly using spy drones to investigate and expose the environmental devastation caused by factory farms. In this investigation, the drones capture shocking aerial video footage of several massive facilities that supply pigs for Smithfield Foods.
Worldwide Reaction to the First-Ever Factory Farm Drone Investigation
Within a few weeks of its release, this investigation by Speciesism: The Movie director Mark Devries had been viewed by millions worldwide, and received major global press coverage. The video continues to be viewed around the world from this website, from the Speciesism: The Movie website, and elsewhere.
Behind the Factory Farm Drone Investigation Videos
Filmmaker Mark Devries of Speciesism: The Movie began developing the plan to use drones on farms in 2012, when a Georgetown Law student suggested the idea at a sneak-preview screening of Speciesism: The Movie. Countless technical problems and cost overruns delayed the project nearly three years, with the series finally being released starting with this video’s publication in late-2014.
The Future of Drones on Farms
Mark Devries will continue investigating factory farms with the use of drones, and will continue releasing videos with the findings of his investigations. Please stay informed through the mailing list at Speciesism: The Movie, the official Facebook page of Speciesism: The Movie, and the official Twitter feed of Speciesism: The Movie.
The Citizen Drone Project

Exclusive: undercover inside the US dairy industry
With planning permission for Britain's biggest dairy at Nocton about to be re-submitted, The Ecologist travels to California to examine intensive milk production - and finds factory farms, conflict, intimidation, pesticides, pollution and small-scale farmers driven out of business...
‘You better get out of here or your gonna get your ass kicked or worse,’ the leathery-faced farmer slurred, picking his words carefully as we pulled up outside his milking parlour. It was coming to the end of our first day in the US, and despite our best efforts to persuade the farmers otherwise, it was clear that journalists are not welcome in this part of the world.
Far from the glittering lights and well trodden-tourist paths that people normally associate with California, the vast udders of America’s dairy industry run through the Central Valley, a rarely-visited arid plain that stretches down the state, wedged in between the Sierra foothills and the Californian coast.
This is the breadbasket of the USA, where almond farms, grapes and corn are carved out of the scrubby desert and grown on eye-wateringly large scales. It is also home to the largest dairies on the planet, a concentration of several hundred milk farms so vast, that in Tulare county alone, there are over 900,000 cows, producing in excess of a billion dollars worth of milk each year.
But as an Ecologist investigation carried out in conjunction with the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) has discovered, the Central Valley has also become a battleground for an unreported conflict, pitting community activists and family farmers against the might of mega dairy farms that have taken root here.
Factory or farm?
For a first-time visitor, the sight and scale of a mega dairy is overwhelming; enormous open-air sheds, mountains of feed, million-gallon pools of slurry and thousands upon thousands of listless cows. Granted access by disgruntled dairy employees, we were able to observe a mega dairy in operation. More akin to a factory production line than a farm long lines of cows could be seen stumbling over outstretched udders as they were driven back and forth to the robotic-like, rotary-milking parlours.
It is a continual daily cycle that stops only when the milk output begins to tail off, and the animals are either re-impregnated or sent off to slaughter; burnt out and discarded after only a few years of life on the factory floor. Animals in American mega dairies will never see a patch of grass in their life, and the only respite comes from shade in the dusty open-air lots where they wait between milking. Even here the animals will not get a chance to really rest; high-milk yielding cows suffer from chronic ‘negative energy balance’, where the cow uses more energy in making milk that she can physically take in by eating, losing body condition as a result.
The Holstein is the favoured breed of choice for most mega dairies, their towering bony frames contrasting wildly with bulging vein-filled udders swinging underneath them. Milk produced by them is of a lower quality with a higher pus content in the milk than that produced by other cow breeds, but what these freakishly-bred animals lack in quality, they make up for in quantity: milked three times a day and propped up with growth hormones to boost milk production, and Antibiotics to stave off frequent infections, milk output in the Holstein has doubled in the last 40 years alone.
It’s not just the animals that suffer. Tom Frantz is a retired schoolteacher and grew up in Shafter, a small town in Tulare County. ‘Until 1996, there weren't any dairies near me, then we got the first mega dairy situated close to here, followed by several others. Within a couple of years at the local school we had two big problems that have never existed before… the school was invaded by hoards of flies, nasty biting flies, clogging the water coolers and forcing the teachers to hang fly strips in the middle of each classroom. It changed things, changed the atmosphere of the school. Then nitrates in the water showed up. The school had always used water from its own well in the past, but suddenly the nitrate level doubled, then tripled, making it unsafe to drink,’ he told The Ecologist.
Hello, I am wanting to find out some info on water weight. I have done some research that I have found and posted in another thread but I wanted to ask some other scientific-minded fellow fasters of their experiences but more so the Science behind the rapid returning of water weight as a result of glycogen water snatch and glycogen superconpensation... SPECIFICALLY how to NOT have such a huge haul of glycogen to carry around. It doesn't seem healthy that we haul around 2KG of glycogen for the "just-in-case"... Cant we reduce that, so that we are keeping our bodies cleaner (by using fat/debris) for fuel? (yes I know kept diet...0
I would like for my liver to not be so greedy and stop making up to 155% of my usual glycogen and retaining huge amounts of water as soon as I break my fast...
I have so far come up with breaking fast with extreme low-zero carb and following ketogenics (which i used to do for years) - as well as Intermittent fasting, with a workout just 30 mins prior to consuming food in the eating window of the I.F.
Glycogen super compensation seems to be fine for those wanting to BULK but not so much for those just wanting to be normal.
Can anyone shed some light on this matter... it seems that over time my body is becoming greedier and greedier for carbs to store much too much glycogen then I really need, hindering my cleansing. Every fast it seems to be getting worse.
Its not specifically a weight issue. but it may be for others.. Its more of a hindering fat burning/ cleansing, and I feel it somehow makes me crave carbs more and thus store more in a vicious cycle...
Thanks for reading and for your response in advance.
This all started about 1.5 years ago with lower back pain. The pain progressively got worse. I saw primary docs, chiropractors and physical therapists for the pain. After about 1 year of no pain relief, a back specialist did some blood tests and found out I was positive for the HLA-B27 gene. His early diagnosis was Ankylosing Spondolitis (an autoimmune disease), but this needed to be verified by a Rheumatologist. Around this same time, I also did biofeedback therapy and found out I was sensitive to gluten, dairy, soy and sugar.
Now I am currently working with a RA, but the process is slow. Still waiting to get an MRI to confirm AS.
I have had suspicions that I also had candida overgrowth, so 1 month ago I went on a strict diet. I have read candida can penetrate the gut and cause severe damage to the GI. The diet consisted of no grains, no sugars (no fruit), no dairy, and lots of low starch veggies, meat and some fish.
I also supplemented with ColonX (dr natura brand) Cleanser and the following anti-fungals: Olive Leaf
Grapefruit Seed Extract, Oregano Oil, Coconut Oil and occasional Pau'daurco Tea. My normal vitamins include a Multi, Vit D, Magnesium, Fish Oil, Pro-biotic and Curamed.
The first 27 days of the diet no effect on the candida. Day 28-32 (current day) have been insane diarrhea and just overall feeling awful and having an upset stomach. I've noticed small little white chunks in my poop. I have also lost about 30 pounds due to the diet and eating healthy. I used to weight about 175 and now weight 145. I am 32 yr male 5'10 and need to gain some of the weight back.
Here are a few questions...
What are the small off-white chunks in my poop? They look different than anything I have seen before. Is that candida, parasite, or something else?
How long should I be on the anti-fungals going forward? I am taking a 6 day break currently from anti-fungals and just taking my normal vitamins and pro-biotic. There is a 6 day break in the Colon Cleanse I am using. Just taking the fiber portion of it right now.
If it is Candida that I have could that be the cause of the Autoimmune issue?
If anyone has gone through this before how long does the die off period last? It has been hard to manage all the pain and constant trips to the bathroom.
How do I gain weight back while I'm on the candida diet?
