Processed soy is no good
by kj 21 y
View Entire Thread 5
You need to eat fermented soy. Soy milk, soy cheese, tofu, etc is loaded with phytates and enzyme inhibitors. I guess if you soaked soy nuts it would be ok...but not 100% sure on that!
If anyone cares to challenge this, I dare you to do some research to back it up, as I have done plenty of my own!!;)
And I know people are touchy about their soy..
Try miso, or other fermented soy products like they eat in Asia.
I dont think they drink Silk soy milk in China.

I’m not MH, BUT ... processed foods are processed foods. I’m opting to NOT drink soy milk, can’t see a natural thing about it .... tofu, same thing ... soy hamber meat, same thing.
I DO use tamari, fermented soy sauce with no wheat.
I DO use MHs Liver Cleanse that is liquid soy lecithin, evoo and herbs.
I have opinions on alot of the bad press that soy gets also:
Vegetarian, and some vegans are trying to replace meat and dairy with soy and are eating way to much of it. Probably in moderation, it would be ok if not GMO soy.

Re: soy - The Ploy of Soy

”The Ploy of Soy” is a great book to get your hands on - to really understand the health implications of using Soy.
Soy was used mostly as a green ferterlizer to be plowed back into the land.
Fully fermented soy products like miso, natto, tempeh are probably OK.
Edame - not sure if this is really good or not.
When buying soya sauce be sure it is fully brewed type. Cheep soya sauces are not brewed and are probably made with Epsom Salt.
Tofu - made with plaster of paris or epsom salt - Would you eat that?
Soy Milk - Stay away from this.
Black Beans - in chinese foods this usually ...

Hi Dennis! I too am confused about soy. Mercola (www.mercola.com) basically says soy is one of the evils of the world, unless it’s properly fermented (ie. miso).
My naturopath says any soy (even the processed soy ”meat” like hotdogs and hamburgers) is okay so long as it’s organic and not from GM soybeans.
My sister has hypothyroid disease and was told by her doctor she cannot eat soy because it’s bad for the thyroid. She was also raised on infant soy formula because she couldn’t tolerate milk (I wasn’t raised on soy like she was, and have had no problems - is this connected?)

I have been to China, spent a month traveling in different parts. I never saw much soy. Soy sauce is obviously popular but because it is so strong, you don’t end up eating a lot at a time.
My sister lived in China for a year, I could ask her about her observations regarding soy.

In Asia, they use small amounts of fermented soy, a process which takes several months to perform.
In North America, when our big companies make soya milk and other soy products, we don’t do this and it makes soy a very unhealthy food. You can’t really compare North American soy products to the Asian ones. You also can’t really compare Asian use of soy (2 teaspoons a day I think you cited) to the way North Americans want to eat it.
Also, the study that compares Asian women to European and US women is flawed, it’s a stretch to think that their lower rate of breast cancer is attributed ...

Would taking soy isoflavones have any affect whatsoever on your gut or only on your hormonal and endocrine system. Because this is the part of the soy that handles estrogen, I’d imagine it causing a response to your hormones but not so much your leaky gut.
