First of all is is very difficult to dilute an oil with water to get a correct test!
Next, the olive oil probably tests over 32 brix and so you would need a different scaled refractometer to test it properly!
I just took my refractometer and tested some olive oil I have here, and it tested above 32 brix, how much I do not know, for I do not have a higher scale Refractometer with me now!

I want to purchase a refractometer and found these 2 choices for digital.
1. Kruss digital 0-95% range
2. Hanna digital 0-50% range
I wanted to get one that would have a higher range than 0-32% and digital.

Hi...I was bidding on a refractometer from ebay and noticed it said it was for wine and beer. So I emailed the seller and said I was looking for the refractometer for veggies and fruit and his response was:

Refreshed, you need to go back and reread all the posts I wrote, and Moreless needs to do the same. Not once anywhere in my posts, did I say that I didn’t have to do what God was leading me to do. I have been eating ’natural’ PB for a while now where the oil has to be mixed in...however have not yet tested it with the refractometer (as I have not eaten PB in a month)
I have read about the toxin before, but your saying PB that registers well on the refractometer should be free of this toxin...will have to try it

Hi Invincible,
You can use the refractometer to measure and check anything which you may get some liquid or sap out of, so this means you may test dairy products also, but then you need to learn just what you may be reading!
This Refractometer (0-32 Brix)used to test foods, measures the sugars in a sample, and ”IF” these sugars are bound with Alkaline Minerals, then the higher reading may mean better Quality!
This is another Tool which may help a person find Better Quality foods to eat!

i was thinking about this...and it came to me that most people would probably be better off getting the refractometer, and working on the alkalizing. Once they get rsults from the refractometer, they can learn how to recognize the low-brix foods by appearance, and the other senses...
I learned to do the muscle testing before my body started going through some ”aging” (and acidifying) processes. I’ve never found I’m not able to do it. Of course, I am not everyone :-)

I also prefer the pH meter myself V,, paper just doesn’t come close to the accurate readings you can get from a meter, it is also multi purpose for gardening ! I use it along with an electrical conductance EC meter and the Refractometer for gardening ! These modern tools are very useful! You can also use the EC meter to tell if you are dehydrated or lacking in minerals! You can also test your carb levels with the refractometer!

You seem to imply that you can successful pick the best produce without one.
Others have changed that opinion after comparing their own abilities with a refractometer.
R’s are very inexpensive on EBAY and elsewhere. Why don’t you do a comparison and see for your self?
Or you can do some searches in this forum. I know of no one who has really learned to use a refractometer and would make the claim that they can do as well or better selecting produce without one. There are many who have admitted that the refractometer is a very valuable aid in selecting our food.

As far as the food I eat, I always try to get the best quality I can find, which is not very good but I believe is at least above average. I do have a Brix refractometer. I had mistakenly bought a Sg/Salt ppt refractometer at first but they let me exchange it for a Brix refractometer, so I’ve been testing all my produce.
Having read about ”High Brix” produce, and seeing what Brix % they are capable of producing when grown in the right conditions. I must conclude that even the ”decent” commercial produce you might find is still crappy compared to ”real high Brix plants.”

presterjohn64, the way you are using your refractometer makes a lot of sense.
I agree too that it is good to do everything we can to make things better here. I tend to be a perfectionist in a lot of ways by nature, and I think that can be damaging in a lot of ways for myself and other people. When it comes to health stuff, passiveness isn’t a problem for me, but perfectionism is, so for me relaxing a little bit with the health stuff is beneficial. My husband on the other hand has the opposite problem. We are all different that’s for sure.

I used to spend more on a couple of bottles of supplements then I paid for my refractometer ! I have thrown away good money on many items that I thought could improve my health, consumed them with limited benefits and they are no more!

You need to understand what your are testing with the refractometer!
For this type of a refractometer, it tests mostly the concentration of sugars and the salt index of the Alkaline Minerals involved with the sugars!
Like for example when you tested the himalyan salt, it has other Alkaline Minerals bound with the sodium chloride, so this provides a refractory reaction when it is combined with water, because of the differences of it’s make up!
Whereas the CH does not contain Acids and Alkaline Minerals within it’s self as the salt did which you tested!

The Refractometer is just a tool like the pH stix! The main tool you need is comon sense!
No matter what the reading on an instrument your body is the ultimate decider! You have no real way of kowing what qualityn your food is but the refractometer gives you a good indication ,along with taste and appearence you can get a pretty honest estimate fo the value of certain foods!
If you have high pH readings but still feel sick you cant just shrug it off you have to investigate further! If you have foods that read high brix but taste lousy get a new refractometer or find a food that has a hig ...
