Fasting and breast-feeding

Oh dear, I just noticed that Olivia had a baby six weeks before starting her first fast.
What do people think about fasting and breastfeeding? I couldn’t find anything on it online apart from stuff to say that short term fasts may result in more toxins in breast milk, by I think that referred to dry fasts on religious occasions, and that pregnant or lactating women are often given exemption from these fasts.
So I did a curezone search for breast feeding in this forum. Here are the results. http://curezone.org/forums/search.asp?q=breast+feeding&action=Find&f=335

I am sorry to hear about your last fasting experience! You mentioned that you were breast feeding during your fast! When breast feeding your body needs more nutrients because your body is producing milk this puts a much a greater demand on your on your body, probably the reason you had so many issues during the fast! Pregnant and Nursing women can also deal with all kinds of hormonal issues that can cause a lot of different problems! I have been fasting off and on for 30 years and I found the no 2 fasts are the same! We have to learn to listen to our bodies and Know the difference between ...

Are you breast feeding your baby, If so, fasting is a no-no as per Ayurvedic. You can do fruit fasting. If you are breast feeding you should eat all nutritious foods you can. Your baby should be your focus for 18 months and after that you can fast. It is too soon for you to loose weight after you had the baby. I have seen many ladies in my family who lost their weights very differently. One of my cousins had three children and after the babies birth she looked like she never gave birth to that baby, back the way she was. One of my sisters did not loose pregnancy weight for ...

I would NEVER recommend bottle-feeding over breastfeeding...there are not nearly enough nutrients for the child!
Having said that, though, and being one who breast-fed...I personally went nutritionally deficient breast-feeding my child (and never fasted during breastfeeding) because I was already deficient in IODINE!
I can now connect ALL my ills and whoas (and almost dying due to heart failure) while breast-feeding due to an iodine deficiency because NOW I’m on iodine (thanks to the iodine support forum) and am healthier than ever!

Are you breast feeding? If yes, please do not fast. If taking care of a baby and doing other chores for the family is stressful,Naldo do not fast.
You can expect to lose 1lb per day so some days you may lose more weight than others.

You say you have read a lot about fasting and pretty well educated about this subject. Then you would know that water fasting means water only. Many of us have posted here about not even using toothpaste. Secondly, yes, you have to rest during a fast, no buts about it. With one year old baby I would not fast especially if you are breast feeding.
IMO, I think if you should first eat only raw foods, your body is crying for micronutrients. Depression is a condition you can get out of in one day. Depression is a condition of brain not getting good food, eat good fats, avocado, olive oil, fl ...

I agree - for your baby to have the best possible nutritional benefit I think it’s important to eat as much as you need. When breastfeeding I felt more than any other time in my life that my body was processing my food as fuel (and of course converting it straight to nourishment for my baby). The body is so amazing!
Also, you’re only a few weeks in - sleep deprivation eventually takes its toll - believe me, you will need all of your strength. And you’ll be able to enjoy your baby’s first year so much more with all the vitality that eating a healthy diet provides.

If you are not breast feeding then it is ok to fast. I don’t know how much stress you have in your home, dealing with children cooking, cleaning etc. If you are in stressful situation it is not good time to fast. There are lot of mothers here on CZ cook for their families and fast. It does take strong will. Take it one day at a time, as you go further in the long fast then you may need help with kids, etc.

I decided this after reading the last post about fasting while breast feeding. Who wuld do this except someone with an eating disorder? I get fasting, it is a cleanse of the body and soul, but people here take it to an extreme, for LOOSING WEIGHT. Bye all, nice to chat with you for a while, but my interest is not starving to be thin.

Merz,
Congratulations on the birth of your baby.
when I was pregnant I put on more than 20 pounds (about 15 kg). Then I started breastfeeding. I was often hungry and my body required foods such as nuts and fruit in great quantities.
After a few months I started to go back into shape and after 1 year I was almost skinny.
Just enjoy this wonderful time with your baby, go for long walks with him and possibly to the swimming pool. Most babies enjoy both the open air and bathing with mummy.

it is not advisable to fast during lactation unless absolutely necessary as in serious health conditions, and for the following reasons.............

a lot of literature on fasting
mothers breastfeeding, but I
did breastfeed my own child.
I would be very concerned
that your milk quality could
be compromised at a time when
your child needs those calories

Three weeks post delivery also

Could you consider putting it

i guess we should wait to hear from Olivia (it always feels weird to speculate and hypothesize about people; it’s very like gossip), but I have the distinct sense that she wasn’t breastfeeding, (or maybe did for a few weeks?) hence, milk drying up wasn’t an issue. my sense is, this will take some time--but that you CAN do it, and it’s the right approach--if you stop doing all the stuff (you used to do) that kills off the good flora, and start making kombucha, as well as whatever else. I’m a big believer in building flora the natural way, though making your own probiotics. Also, eating in a way that supports these--that is, with all the good Pre-biotic stuff. Hello archus,
Your welcome.
The principles of Natural Hygiene state that any abnormal growths such as cysts and tumors (or any diseased condition) is the result of internal toxemia, which is a condition of the body brought about by enervation, & which results in the retention of toxins; this occurs with the body not being able to ”keep-up” with normal elimination thru the bowels, Liver, kidneys and skin during the normal process of nutrition. I can vouch for the absolute truth of this.

The only thing I would say is that statistically speaking several here will have died too, but we just don’t get to know about them. The death rate from anorexia is about 15 - 30%, plus there are other EDs such as bulimia, which is quite risky apparently. So I guess some just fade away and don’t post again.

I am no expert on that, but here’s a few things that may interest you.
T Colin Campbell’s China Study found that a western diet brings upon early menarche. Age at menarche is related to cancer, and this is caused by feeding rich food. Oestrogen levels soars and then plunges at menopause. In china, average age of menarche was 17 or even 19 in some places. In the west it is 11. Oestrogen levels are 50% higher in western women than Chinese.
The menopause is at 52 for western women, 48 for Chinese, so western women have more exposure to oestrogen. This is why there is more breast cancer. ...

Very fortunate though that you live in close proximity to Dr Ben Kim, who is one of the foremost leaders in NH and fasting supervision. As a priority, I would make an appointment with him.
The good news is that most cases of ACC of the breast do not spread to the lymph nodes, and rarely metastasize (spread) to other parts of the body. Not all cases of ACC are fueled by estrogen or progesterone, but some may be hormone-sensitive. ACC can be effectively treated, with the minimum risk of recurrence, and has an excellent o ...

I believe you need to give your body chances to rebuild essential tissues and to continuously deal with your main health-goal while re-feeding. Gym may take away energy and resources from the unfinished healing.
As to how long to hold back on intense gym - can’t tell. I guess it depends on the goal. I knew a girl with very malignant breast cancer, who made it go away through series of fasts - the skin ulcers from the cancer and the edema disappeared. Then she dropped all fasting, stopped being raw, r ...

Osteopenia is a condition where bone mineral density is lower than normal. It is considered by many doctors to be a precursor to osteoporosis. However, not every person diagnosed with osteopenia will develop osteoporosis.
The simple solution to Osteopenia (and to avoid Osteporosis as well) is to eat a nutrient-dense diet, and a good-quality bioavailable mineral supplement, but also (and just as important) to rebuild your bone-nutrition density by exercise, and I mean weight-bearing exercise. The very best and most efficent method of exercise to do this is by rebounding. Google it and es ...

and the last one is 10 - 20 days until the tongue is clear and hunger returns.

Hello #113715,
Prolactin stimulates the growth and development of the breast, which is why its production is increased during pregnancy: this helps maintain milk production for breastfeeding afterwards.
After having a baby, prolactin levels are therefore normally high.
Occasionally the pituitary gland continues to overproduce prolactin hormone resulting in some milk production from the breast after breastfeeding, absent periods and sometimes infertility.
I don’t think you have anything to be overly concerned about.
