Hello, I’ve read in this forum some time ago that Selenium should be taken some time away from Iodine. The Selenium is needed to protect the thyroid, apparently. I am currently taking my Selenium in the morning, whilst taking my Iodine late in the evening. Is this OK? Hello, I’ve been on 50mg of Iodoral for the past 4 months as per Brownstein’s protocol. And am now cutting down to 12.5mg daily. Up until now I’ve been taking 800mc of Selenium (companion nutrients, protecting thyroid). Now, is it safe to reduce Selenium just because I’m dropping from 50mg Iodine to 12.5mg? How low a dose of Selenium would you advise me to go with 12.5mg Iodine? Its not that I mind taking 800mc Selenium, its simply because I cannot afford it. I’m cutting back where I can. I cannot advise you on your problem. I can tell you what happens to me when I take Iodine. I used to have a resting heart rate of 90-100 beats per minute for many years. I also had a slightly elevated blood pressure. (nothing dangerous) I got an Indian herbal medicine (from India) called Mukta Vati. Since taking this, my blood pressure has gone down to normal levels. But even better, my resting heart rate is now 48-56. Now, regarding Iodine: I already was on Mukta Vati a long time before I started on Iodine. I take 50mg Iodoral daily. I cannot find the source for it right now. But I read that the Himalayan Salt thing is just your generic scam to fool gullible New Agers into paying big bucks for salt that really comes from some polluted lowland area in Pakistan, containing loads of flouride. This is what I’ve heard(read). I do not know if it is accurate or not. Take it how you wish. I don’t think you can take any salt and expect it to do the same as Iodoral.   [End]

I think the ’mainstream’ research says that overuse of iodine can cause HYPERthyroidism - not hypo. At least all the data I’ve been able to read has pointed to the risk of HYPERthyroidism. Whereas its often suggest to supplement with iodine if you are HYPO. Again, I know nothing. All I can do is recount what I’ve read here and there. (mainly mainstream) I also wonder if one would happen to find oneself with hyperthyroidism suddenly - after having taken lots of iodine - if simply quitting iodine for a while is enough to ge out of hyperthyroidism? And how long this ’while’ would be. ...

Hi Cinnamons, I have successfully cured (or controlled at least) my HBP with an aryuvedic (from India) thing called ’Mukta Vati’. It has also reduced my resting heart rate @ about 90 down to 54(!). It took about 10 days for it to work. The same happened to my father, who also is taking Mukta vati. Maybe you want to look into it. Its all natural. I’ve been on it since April. My mother has hyperthyroidism. Her MD STRONGLY advised against taking iodine, as it will cause even more elevated adrenaline levels and consequently elevated heart rate etc. The MD said that they sometimes used iodine to treat hypothyroidism, though. Being my mother’s son, I am also inclined to hyperthyroidism. (I’m already showing signs of it). I wanted to try iodine, as I read it was good to detoxing mercury. But looks like I’ll have to skip iodone and look for another way to get rid of the mercury. :(   [End]
