I don’t think exfoliating the lips is at all good. Once you stop doing it, it might happen that your ec may be worse off. Even a doctor told me that exfoliating the lips puts them at a higher probability of courting infection. And as far as I know, no-one has ever been healed by peeling his lips.   [End]

About one thing we all are very certain: if there is any cure for EC, it is the leave alone approach. If you are unable to bear EC, you can manually peel off your lips and live. For this, before going to bed (after brushing) apply a layer of vaseline over your lips. In the morning after brushing your teeth, take a ear cotton bud and peel off the extra skin. It is negligibly painful and my lips look normal throughout the day. But i do not know about the long term effects of it. But many people with EC have been doing it and hopefully they are doing well.   [End]

Hi! I will seriously suggest you to take consultations from some more dermatologists. I personally consulted 3 dermatologists & finally sticked to the one whose explanation of my EC was most logical & intuitive & based on his own personal experience of seeing widespread topical steroid abuse among skin patients. Yes even i feel that back when i was applying tacrolimus ointment o.1% w/w with other products i was simply peeling my lips indirectly i.e. while removing ICTYANE HD. But the good thing is that after the treatment protocol that i had posted,i stopped getting that white gunk under my top lip after getting up in the morning. Also, now only the crusted area goes white after contact with water. The rest remains normal.   [End]

1. My lips usually dont hurt. They hurt very little when i smile or stretch my lips. 2. They dont burn now. Previously they used to burn after i applied mustard oil on them. 3. Half of my bottom lip (lower one) is EC free. The upper part does crusts & peels off. I have yellow crusts which become sort of white when in contact with water. 4. I think I would have to leave them alone for some time to know exactly how much are they healed which i haven’t done till now. When i leave them alone, after some days they start looking odd and then my mom forces me to apply ICTYANE HD cream and indirectly peel them i.e. they naturally get peeled to some extent when i wipe out the ictyane. As per my current dermatologist my lips worsened because of applying a super-potent topical steroid. I am not saying that dont listen to what your doctor says but do discuss with him/her about the adverse side-effects of topical steroids. No i haven’t asked him about using tacrolimus for a long period of time. Its upto him to decide that what should i use on my lips. No i dont get that white line anymore underneath my top lip (or in other words i still do get some SMALL white pieces of accumulated skin or whatever but i guess it could also be the remains of the ICTYANE cream which i apply 2-3 times in a day. But this white line situation is definitely MUCH MUCH better than before. Almost negligible compared to the previous situation.) Once the existing crusts fell off, the buildup/peeling magically just stopped. Read my pdf file carefully as to how i began my treatment. So after the peeling stopped the redness persisted. For the earlier part of my treatment, i used to sleep after applying ictyane. Once the lips became stronger i.e. less sensitive to touch, i started to apply aloe lips before going to bed & i do it even today. The skin underneath first time was irritated and red. When this ”dry lips” problem had started, i went to a dermatologist & for the first month he prescribed me blistex & dietary supplement. So after the above mentioned 1 month, my lips were ”still ok”. Then when i visited him for the second time, he prescribed me BETAGEL & the same dietary supplement. I applied BETAGEL for about a month only once while going to sleep.
