On the road to Damascus, Saul fell off his camel, lit on his head and went blind.
Being a competent rabbi, he thought to fool God by bribing Him with a promise to stop murdering Christians. God made him do so.
Saul was tired of being called Solly baby, so pretended his name was Paul.
Paul wrote lots of stuff intended to bury the Word of God, and was rewarded for that feat with a citizenship of Rome.
Even the Romans could not stand him, so had him murdered.
