Try applying URINE to your skin. I know it sounds weird, but uric acid is one of the main ingredients in many skin care formulations because the skin loves it. And there is a ton of it in urine, obviously. You don’t need to apply it everywhere, just pick a test spot, maybe a foot or a particularly troublesome patch. I’m sure all the iodine folks will chime in here and give you great advice. I’m not an expert at all, but isn’t 125mg per day pretty high? If this was me I would probably go to a lower maintenance dose right away. We know that iodine has a direct relationship with the thyroid, so it makes sense that your thyroid numbers would be different, as your thyroid is probably functioning differently. Iodine really messes with my menstrual cycle. I can only tolerate tiny amounts. However I have found that these symptoms change over time, so if you stick with a small amount of iodine (maybe just 1 drop per day?), your cycle should normalize after a few months. Mine did. D-Mannose is expensive, but taking it daily would help I think. You also need to take fairly large does, more than the bottle recommends certainly. Another thing that really has helped me is probiotics. I like the Jarrowdopholous (spelling?) brand. You can find it in healthfood stores in a cooler, and I buy the yellow bottle. I’d have her take a lot, like 4 pills, 3 times a day for about 2 weeks, then she could go to 4 pills twice a day for maintenance. I have suffered with UTI’s all my adult life and have had to take way too many antibiotics, so I know just how you both feel. :( It sounds like you are doing the right thing with the d-mannose, but in my experience it really only works *before* you get a UTI, to prevent it. Yes, it seems very complicated also each person has a unique situation, so I suppose iodine will have a somewhat different effect in each person, depending on their issues and hormonal/thyroid status. In general, iodine seems to help people with their hormones, so I think you and I (and others who experience things like this) may have a less common situation or reaction to the iodine. I’m not sure about the specifics of your hormonal situation, but I will say that I also feel that iodine disrupts my hormones. My menstrual cycle was always like clockwork for my whole adult life. Exactly 28 days every month. When I started taking iodine (about 30-40 mg per day in the form of Lugols), my periods became irregular and were frequently late. I have to agree! I applied black salve to a mole a few years ago, trying to get rid of it, and the stuff did burn it off, but in a strange irregular way that kind of scared me. Really interesting info! I wonder how this relates to cellulite? My suspicion is that cellulite is related to the skin losing it’s natural elasticity and sort of falling over the fat in an unattractive way, rather than an actual problem with too much fat, at least this seems to be the case with me. Hi Everyone, Here is a mystery I am hoping someone can help solve. I’ve been having urinary pain again, and so I took a home UTI test. The test came back negative for nitrites, but positive for leukocytes (white blood cells). What does this mean? No nitrites means no bacteria, which means no infection, right? Or am I wrong on that point? I am thinking that the leukocytes are maybe just an indication of severe irritation that the body is trying to deal with (maybe even interstitial cystitis?). I had LASIK done about 10 years ago and it worked ok for me, though my night vision got considerably worse afterwards. Hi, I posted a long post in a few other forums, so I won’t go into great detail here, however I have a long-standing kidney infection that I’m trying to clear. (By long-standing I mean that I’ve had it for a year or two, but it has been rather mild, and I’ve been trying natural methods the whole time, with not much luck.) My doc wants me to take Cipro, but from what I’ve read, Cipro is a serious poison, so I’m really hesitant to cooperate with that. On the other hand, I need to clear this infection... Hi, if you read my previous post then you know my whole story and I won’t repeat it here. In short, I have a pretty bad and long-term kidney infection and my doctor is saying that Cipro is the only thing that will cure it, and pretty much refusing to prescribe Amoxicillan or anything other than Cipro. I am scared to death of Cipro and don’t want to take it. Is she right? Or should I go to another doctor? Don’t know what to do!   [End]
