One more response to your question. If it’s NOT an infection problem, it could you only need to increase blood flow to the lesions to promote healing. I don’t really want to reveal this and I don’t think anyone wants to hear this, but several years ago I had anal fissures (cuts) that wouldn’t heal for a year. A colorectal surgeon who examined me told me take a bath an hour a day (i.e., 2x a day, 30 mins. per session) to increase blood flow to the fissures. But it could be if the drug doesn’t work, to go to someone with a different area of medical expertise who might look at your condition from another perspective. Puppymon, I’ve gotten more than a few emails from sufferers that the ”cure” burns their lips. Some of this was a result of repeating the treatment too many times per day. It could be you need multiple treatments that steadily kills the fungus population in the wound (instead using a powerful one strike) but without further creating an inflammatory condition which will make the condition worse. Secret Agent, I don’t know much about this one. I checked the ingredients and it contains a boatload of oils and I’m not sure of the manfacturer’s reasons for this. The only oil in the list that I might help is the vitamin e oil which I heard has a relationship to scar reduction. Again, have a dermatologist look at your condition. I would definitely go to a dermatologist. Perhaps he could recommend a skin whitening cream. Or perhaps he call tell how much the scars will fade if they are left alone. The collagenase in your skin is suppose to eat away the scar tissue so it’ll fade in time. There’s a collagenase ointment called Santyl that’s used for dermal ulcers and burned skin. Don’t know if it’ll work but perhaps your doctor could prescribe it for off label use (for your case) which is perfectly legal. Not sure how hard that would be to convince a doctor to do this. No, it doesn’t have to be Palmolive. That was just an example. Due to feedback from some people who’ve ended up really drying out their lips from using this treatment, I recommend trying a somewhat weaker soap first (Softsoap or a kid’s type soap) and if that doesn’t work, then try an ordinary dish washing soap. Try not to use an anti-bacterial soap for they can be a little too strong. Don’t make the mistake of doing the treatment 3 to 10 times before evaluating whether the first treatment worked. People who’ve suffered for months, years have reported difficulty trying to prevent the cuts from reopening. Others have complained about the dryness. Hey Ljs, The band aids are meant to keep the area moist if used with neosporin. Moreover covered cuts healer faster than uncovered cuts. Also, the constriction of the band aids may prevent the person from habitually opening his mouth too wide even during sleep. Incidentally I would avoid using ”tough strip” bandaids. Your question on whether or not anyone has experienced permanent results of the AC treatment, I can say personally it was a ”yes” for me. However, for many who’ve experienced AC for longer than two months, I suspect they may have to work harder during recovery. That means keeping the mouth corners moist, avoiding acidic foods such as tomatoes and oranges (to avoid burning into the former cuts), and gently cleaning the area after meals. I’ve heard of people who’ve had for very long periods, but your post gave me more personal viewpoint. Speaking from experience, my infection went away very quickly and thus so did the redness (about a week or two).
