Most people do not associate ones feet with the neck, or back for that matter. My chiropractor always checks foot alignment first.
Get rid of the shoes... and learn how to walk...
I found this article that someone posted MOST beneficial.
I have only worn shoes (wear sandals for work, which I take off when I am in my office or on the floor I work on when I can) half a dozen or so brief times since about November last year. I am walking very differently than I used to and had not even noticed until I read through this article. No wonder shoes feel so awkward now. I have also been told that no one can hear me when I walk up behind them... even when I do wear sandals or shoes now.
It has helped with my back and neck pain considerably. For those who are not familiar, I have been split open like a chicken due to 2 compressed and a herniated disk surgery. Right before the surgery, I was in so much pain I cried... a lot. Turned out the herniation had come loose and was rubbing/sitting on the spinal cord, which it had continually bruised.
Did not take long for surgical scar tissue to start becoming a similar problem... NONE of that is a problem any more.
When my left knee starts to give me a little trouble, I try hard to consciously walk the way it is described here (not too far off the way I walk normally now) and I can significantly reduce the pain associated with walking and going down stairs.
Once one learns how to walk; I am sure there must be shoes (I know sandals without raised heals are easy to come by) out there somewhere that will permit one to walk as if they were barefoot. The only disadvantage at that point is the loss of connection with the earth.
Do not forget to set up your computer work station correctly so that you sit and hold posture correctly. This may be another piece of the puzzle for most.
Just a thought...
