So far, it's gone something like this: the rod with yellow whisps gets tarnished looking and the other one has bubbles and gets the gel-looking gunk. Is that as it should be?

Now the last 2 batches, it looked like the yellow whisp MIGHT (I'm not certain) have been coming from both rods, and there was tarnish on the usual one, but definitely no gunk (or beard) at all.

What's going on?
