And, what if your son is the exception to the 'rule'? What if he will NEVER have any of the predicted 'bad' effects?
And, what if the so-called 'bad effects' are NOT caused by the foreskin at all? What if 'bad effects' are caused by attempting to 'clean' the area too early; or poisonous soaps; or VD that would have caused the same ailment, circumcised or not?
And, most of all, what right has a parent (or doctor) to choose such an intervention for another human being???
First, do no harm!!!
I know there is huge guilt that may be felt from deciding to circumcise a child. And huge anger is possible on the child's part.
But, why defend the action, or the condition once it is a fact? Doesn't defence of the action and the condition lead to a downward spiral of confusion?
Look at the nastiness of some self-defensive posters here.
We need to tell them - It wasn't your fault! It wasn't even the fault of the doctor who offered you the option! He didn't know any better.
At the same time, it is far better to spend your energy today, helping your child find his way OUT of the situation.
The greatest mistake we can make is to ignore our sons' current, immediate, needs.
The second greatest mistake we can make, right now, today, is to ignore the needs of circumcised adults.
Today, we have the opportunity to understand, to show compassion, to find solutions for mistakes of the past, to share true feelings, and to support.
Today we have the opportunity for redemption.
Shall we not take it?
