Alison, I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism after showing all the symptoms of fatigue, fogginess in thought, and low body temperature (97.7 on average). All of my thyroid hormone bloodwork came back in the normal range, with TSH at 3. Unable to do a clinical trial, I found an article from Bastyr that describes what they are finding to be a lower threshold for TSH levels to indicate hypothyroid or sub-clinical hypothyroidism. After working with Bastyr, they did some more bloodwork and found the antigens for Hashymoto's disease and began treating me with Synthroid. Some people are trying ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid) in addition to Coq10 to stimute energy production in the cells and thus to offset the effects of hypothyroidism.
