St Johns Wart gave me a little relief at first and made me absolutely suicidal later. What's really worked well for me is SAM-E. I've used it for years any time I need help over a really tough time and it always comes through. Although not all brands work for some reason the Nature Made brand works best for me - which is good since it's also the least expensive (especially when Kroger has their 2 for 1 sales).

In general I try to bear through the Depression phases taking time to examine my life and see what the Depression is trying to tell me. But there are times when it gets excessively debilitating and you really need some temporary relief. However I would NEVER consider taking antidepressents especially when SAM-E works so well and without side effects. And it's always worked for me the same day that I need relief - so you don't end up using it that often.
